Indesit Washer Dryer F14 Error Code: Drying Heater Open or Not Connected

Reviewed 2026-10-26 ยท Based on 3 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Indesit's WIL10 washer dryer technical documentation (written for service engineers) lists F14 as "drying heater open or not connected". Its check sequence is: check the connector contacts on the main board, check the drying heater's continuity across pins 1 and 2 of the heater connector, check the wiring between the board and the drying heater, replace the heater, and only then replace the board. The document gives the expected reading for a 1300 W, 230 V drying element as "about 40 kOhm", but a 1300 W element at 230 V works out to roughly 40 ohms, so read that figure as about 40 ohms; an open circuit (no reading) means the element or its wiring has failed. UK Whitegoods' Indesit WIDL washer dryer code list describes F14 the same way: dryer element detected as open circuit or short, check wiring and the dryer heating element. F14 isn't on Indesit Service UK's consumer code list, which covers the most common codes only, so the WIL10 document is the manufacturer source here. Neighbouring codes help narrow it down: F13 is the drying temperature sensor, F15 is a drying heater that stays on (stuck relay), and F19 on newer models is a fan motor or heating fault.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. Run a wash-only programme. If it washes and spins normally, the fault is on the drying side and you can keep washing and air-drying until it's fixed.
  2. Switch the machine off and unplug it for a couple of minutes, then try a short drying programme once. A one-off glitch may clear; if F14 comes back, the heater circuit needs testing.
  3. Don't overfill drying loads and keep the area around the machine clear, since restricted airflow can trip the heater's thermal protection.
  4. If you're comfortable working on appliances, unplug the machine and check the drying heater for continuity with a multimeter: roughly 40 ohms is normal for a 1300 W element, and no reading means it has failed. Check its connectors for burning while you're there.
  5. Replace the board only after the heater and wiring test good, which is the order Indesit's service document uses.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • You're not comfortable taking panels off a machine that runs on mains voltage.
  • You see scorch marks or smell burning near the drying heater: unplug it and don't use the drying function until it's checked.
  • The heater and wiring test good and F14 still comes back, which points to the main board.
  • The washer dryer is under warranty: book an Indesit engineer on 0344 822 4224 instead of opening it.
