LG Microwave E10 Error Code: Key Short on the Touch Panel (What to Do)
What the code means
LG's own Russian LG Magazine article on microwave error codes lists E-10 as a fault of the touch (sensor) control panel and says the touch keypad has to be replaced for the microwave to work again. LG's service fault table for models such as the LMV1831ST over-the-range microwave, as reproduced by Appliance Helpers and Appliance Aid, describes E-10 as "Key Short" with the fix "check if any key on the panel/membrane is stuck or short", and Appliance Aid adds "replace key panel". The same table lists F-10 as a key short lasting more than 1 minute. E10 is a different code from F11, which on LG inverter microwaves is an inverter communication error (see our LG F11 page). For an unresponsive keypad with no code, LG USA's help library first checks the child lock (hold START/ENTER or CLEAR/OFF, depending on model), then has you unplug the microwave for 2 to 3 minutes and retry; if the control panel is still unresponsive, the unit requires service.
Likely causes
- A key on the touch panel or membrane that is stuck down or shorted (the meaning in LG's fault table)
- A worn or damaged touch keypad (membrane), which LG's magazine says needs replacing
- Moisture or grease getting under the keypad, for example from steam or wiping the panel with a very wet cloth
- A temporary control glitch after a power outage or surge that clears after a power reset
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.
- Unplug the microwave (or switch off its breaker) for 2 to 3 minutes, then plug it back in. That is LG's reset step for control panel problems.
- Look and feel for a key that stays pressed down, is cracked, or has a bubble or peeling edge on the membrane.
- Wipe the touch panel with a slightly damp cloth, then dry it. Don't spray cleaner directly on the panel, and let it dry fully if it got wet or steamy.
- If the keys simply don't respond and there's no code, check the child lock first: LG says to hold START/ENTER (or CLEAR/OFF on some models) for 3 to 4 seconds to lock or unlock.
- Don't open the cabinet to reach the keypad connector. The microwave holds a high-voltage capacitor that can stay charged after unplugging.
๐ When to call a pro
- E10 returns after a power reset and the panel is dry: the keypad (touch panel/membrane) most likely needs replacing.
- The keypad was replaced and E10 still appears: the technician checks the keypad ribbon connector and the control board.
- The microwave starts by itself or a function runs without a button being pressed: unplug it and book service, since a shorted key can act like a held button.
