Candy Washing Machine E02 Error Code: Machine Can't Fill With Water
What the code means
Candy's user manuals (for example the CSW 2D washer dryer manual and Candy's current UM02 washing machine manual) list E2 as "the machine cannot load water". Models with a display show E followed by the number, which many Candy displays write as E02; models without a display flash every LED twice, pause about 5 seconds, and repeat. Candy's checks are: make sure the water supply tap is open, make sure the supply hose isn't bent, kinked or trapped, make sure the drain pipe is at the proper height (the UM02 manual gives 50 to 85 cm above the floor), and close the tap, unscrew the fill hose from the back of the machine and make sure the anti-sand filter is clean and not blocked. Candy Hoover's engineer technical note for Smart Touch machines defines E:02 more precisely: the water fill phase was not completed within the designed time limit, with the most probable causes a defective solenoid valve, the pressostat (pressure switch), the fill hose, low water pressure in the supply, or wiring. Candy France's guide to a washing machine that won't fill lists the same chain: the supply and hoses, water pressure, a blocked inlet filter, the inlet valve, the pressure switch, and finally the programmer or electronic board. Neighbouring codes help narrow it down: E3 is a drain problem, E4 is too much foam or water, and E7 is a door problem.
Likely causes
- Water tap turned off or only partly open (Candy's first check)
- Inlet hose bent, kinked or trapped behind the machine
- Anti-sand filter at the hose connection on the back of the machine blocked with grit or scale
- Low water pressure in the house supply
- Drain pipe fitted too low, so water can run straight out while the machine fills
- Faulty water inlet (solenoid) valve, often heard hissing with a very slow fill or no fill at all
- Faulty pressure switch (pressostat) or its hose, so the machine never sees the right level
- Loose or damaged wiring to the valve or pressure switch, or a control board fault
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.
- Make sure the cold water tap feeding the machine is fully open, and check other taps in the house have normal pressure.
- Pull the machine out carefully and check the inlet hose isn't kinked, crushed or trapped against the wall.
- Check the drain hose: Candy wants the drain pipe between about 50 and 85 cm above the floor using the curved hose guide. If the hose end sits too low, the water can drain away as fast as it fills.
- Turn off the tap, put a towel down, unscrew the fill hose from the back of the machine and look at the small mesh anti-sand filter inside the connection. Rinse out any grit or scale, then refit the hose hand-tight and turn the tap back on, checking for leaks.
- Unplug the machine for about a minute, plug back in and start a short programme. Listen: if you hear water rushing in, the fault was the supply; if you hear only a faint hiss or nothing at all, the inlet valve is the likely suspect.
- If E02 comes back with good pressure and a clean filter, stop there and call Candy's authorised service or a technician to test the inlet valve, pressure switch and wiring.
๐ When to call a pro
- The tap is fully open, the hoses and anti-sand filter are clear, and E02 still comes back.
- You hear a hum or faint hiss but little or no water comes in, which points to the inlet valve.
- Water comes in normally but the machine still stops with E02, which points to the pressure switch, its hose or the wiring.
- You're not comfortable taking the top panel off a machine that runs on mains voltage.
- The machine is under warranty: contact Candy's authorised service centre rather than opening it.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Candy washing machine water inlet valve
The usual fix when the supply and filter are fine but little or no water comes in. Match it to the model number on the label inside the door.
Search eBay โCandy washing machine pressure switch
Only after a technician has confirmed water is coming in but the level isn't being detected.
