Fisher & Paykel Dishwasher A1 Error Code: Water Supply Fault on a DishDrawer (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-24 ยท Based on 3 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Fisher & Paykel's US and Canada DishDrawer user guide 592816A lists A1 in its 'A' fault code table as "Water supply fault," and the NZ and AU care guide 433468A gives the same code as "Water supply fault (A1). Ensure water supply is on." A codes are problems the owner can usually sort out, unlike F codes, which point to a fault that may need a reset or a service visit. A DishDrawer fills through an inlet valve in the base until the wash pump is primed. Fisher & Paykel's DishDrawer service manual 590409A explains that in low water pressure situations the drawer may never reach prime and times out, and it gives the fill time-out as 175 seconds. That manual, written for older DD607 and DD247 models, shows the same water supply warning as U1 (a "no tap" symbol), so if your drawer shows U1 instead of A1, the advice on this page applies too. On a double DishDrawer only the drawer with the problem shows the code.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Turn the dishwasher off at the wall before pulling it out or reaching behind the kick panel, and turn the water off before disconnecting the inlet hose. Testing the inlet valve and controller means working near mains wiring, so leave those checks to a qualified technician.

  1. Check that the water supply tap to the dishwasher is fully on.
  2. Look under the sink or behind the kick panel for a kinked or squashed inlet hose, and make sure it's connected securely at both ends.
  3. Press the power button once to stop the beeping, then press it again to clear the fault, as Fisher & Paykel's user guide says.
  4. Press Start/Pause to resume the wash program and watch whether the drawer fills.
  5. If A1 shows up when other appliances are using water, try running the DishDrawer when the washing machine, shower or irrigation isn't running. Fisher & Paykel's service manual says low pressure homes sometimes need to do this.
  6. If you see foam in the drawer, use only dishwasher detergent made for automatic dishwashers and wipe up any spilled rinse aid before running a rinse.
  7. If A1 keeps returning with the tap on and good pressure, note the code and contact Fisher & Paykel Customer Care or book a service technician.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • Running the fill valve in the DishDrawer's hardware output (diagnostics) mode to confirm water reaches the tub, then checking supply pressure against the 0.03 MPa (4.3 psi) minimum, or 0.1 MPa (14.5 psi) on water softener models.
  • Fitting Fisher & Paykel's higher-flow 4 litre valve (part 529828) where pressure or flow is marginal, as service manual 590409A suggests.
  • Checking the motor rotor for damage and the water softener filter for blockages, and flushing out excess foam with the drain pump running.
  • Measuring the inlet valve coil at controller harness P205, pins 10 and 11, where Fisher & Paykel's spec is 65 ohms plus or minus 10, and replacing the valve if it reads outside that range.
  • Replacing the controller only after the supply, valve, rotor and foam causes are ruled out.

Parts that commonly fix it

Always match the part number to your exact model.

โš™

Dishwasher water inlet valve

Only if a technician confirms the valve has failed. Match the part to your DishDrawer model number.

Dishwasher detergent

Use automatic dishwasher detergent only; the wrong detergent causes foam that can stop the drawer filling properly.
