Fisher & Paykel Dishwasher Error Code E6: Drying Fan Fault or Flood Switch (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-24 ยท Based on 4 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Fisher & Paykel's DishDrawer user guide (DD24, DD60, DD36, DD90 models) lists E6 as "Fault with the drying fan". The DishDrawer service manual 590409A (DD607 and DD247 series) describes it as a fan fault, shown on the LCD with a spanner, or by the Fast and Delicate lights on integrated models. The drying fan is a 24 V brushless DC motor that pulls air through the tub after the final rinse; a flap valve in its housing opens whenever it runs. The manual splits E6 into sub codes: 02 is under current (an open-circuit fan motor or wiring) and 03 is over current (a short-circuited or seized fan). The full-size DW60 dishwasher uses the same code for something else: its user guide lists E6, shown by the first four program lights flashing, as "Flood switch activated", meaning water is sitting in the base pan under the tub. Check your model number on the rating label before you start; DishDrawers have one or two pull-out drawers, while the DW60 has a standard drop-down door.

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Switch off the power before touching water around a dishwasher or reaching behind a drawer front; the fan, controller and wiring sit there. Fan and controller replacement means removing the drawer front, which is a technician's job. Wipe up water on the floor right away so nobody slips.

  1. Find your model first. If it's a DishDrawer, follow the DishDrawer steps; if it's a DW60 full-size dishwasher, skip to the DW60 steps.
  2. DishDrawer: press the On/Off button to stop the beeping, wait a few seconds, then press it again to clear the fault, as the Fisher & Paykel user guide says.
  3. DishDrawer: if E6 clears, run a program and listen for the fan after the wash. Fisher & Paykel's service manual notes the fan can wait 30 to 40 minutes after the final rinse before it starts, so a quiet fan right away isn't a fault.
  4. DishDrawer: if E6 comes straight back, follow the fault steps in your user guide and note the extra number (Classic models) or extra lights (integrated models) that appear. That sub code tells the technician whether it's an under-current or over-current fan fault.
  5. DishDrawer: switch off the power and water and contact Fisher & Paykel Customer Care with the code. The fan sits behind the drawer front and the user guide doesn't have owners replace it.
  6. DW60: turn the water supply off and switch off the power at the outlet or breaker right away.
  7. DW60: wipe up any water on the floor and check the inlet and drain hoses behind the dishwasher for splits or loose connections. Use only automatic dishwasher detergent so suds don't overflow.
  8. DW60: don't keep switching it back on while the base is still wet. Fisher & Paykel's guide says to call your dealer or authorized service center for a flood switch fault.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • E6 returns on a DishDrawer after a reset. The service manual has a technician check the fan harness, run the fan in diagnostic mode and replace the fan, then the controller if the fault continues.
  • The fan harness or controller connections show water damage, corrosion or arcing.
  • E6 appears on a DW60. Fisher & Paykel says to turn the water and power off and call a dealer or authorized service center.
  • You find a leak inside the cabinet, at a seal, valve or hose connection that needs the dishwasher pulled out.
  • The dishwasher is under warranty. Contact Fisher & Paykel Customer Care with the fault code rather than opening it up yourself.
