LG Microwave F10 Error Code: Key Held or Shorted for Over a Minute

What the code means

LG's microwave fault table for convection and over-the-range models such as the LMV1831ST, as reproduced by Appliance Aid and Appliance Helpers, lists F-10 as "Key Short for more than 1 min" with the fix "Check if any Key on the Panel/Tactile is Stuck or Short". In plain terms, the control board saw a key closed for over a minute, which a person pressing a button wouldn't do, so it stops and shows the code. The same table lists E-10 as a key short and F-01, F-02 and F-11 as convection thermistor and temperature faults, so on these models F-11 is not the same as the inverter communication error that newer NeoChef inverter models show as F-11. LG's own help article on F-3 errors says that F codes on its microwave and lightwave ovens point to abnormalities, that touch-panel errors can be caused by foreign substances around the touch button panel, and that you should wipe the panel, unplug the cord and plug it back in, then call for an inspection if the same error reappears. Use F10 as a sign to check the keypad first: a spill, grease or steam under the membrane, or a worn membrane, are the usual reasons a key reads as held. See our LG E10 page for the closely related key-short code and our LG F3 page for the touch-panel key error on newer models.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.

  1. Unplug the microwave (or switch off its breaker) for 2 to 3 minutes, then plug it back in. LG says errors can be temporary and this reset clears them.
  2. Wipe the touch panel with a slightly damp cloth and a little mild detergent, then dry it fully. Don't spray cleaner straight onto the panel, since liquid can creep under the membrane.
  3. If the panel got wet or steamy, leave the microwave unplugged for a few hours so it can dry before you try again.
  4. Press each key once and feel for one that stays down, clicks differently, or has a bubble or peeling edge on the membrane.
  5. If F10 shows up right after you cleaned the panel or after a spill, the drying time often fixes it. If it returns on a dry, clean panel, book service.
  6. Don't open the cabinet to reach the keypad connector. A microwave holds a high-voltage capacitor that can stay charged after it is unplugged.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • F10 returns after a power reset on a clean, dry panel: LG says to call for an inspection, and the keypad (touch panel membrane) is the usual part.
  • A function starts on its own or the microwave beeps as if a button were held: unplug it and book service, since a shorted key can act like a pressed button.
  • A new keypad doesn't clear F10: the technician checks the ribbon connector and the control board.
  • The microwave is under LG's warranty: use LG service rather than opening it.

Parts that commonly fix it

Always match the part number to your exact model.

โš™

Microwave touch panel keypad

The usual fix for a stuck or shorted key. Keypads are model-specific; on many LG models it comes as a control panel assembly, so match your exact model number.

Microwave control board

Only if a new keypad and a good ribbon connection don't clear F10. Match your exact model number.
