Midea Mini Split Error Code P1: Over Voltage or Low Voltage Protection (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-24 ยท Based on 5 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Midea's error tables list P1 as "Over voltage or too low voltage protection" (the Oasis Plus 3D manual's table words it "over voltage or over low voltage protection"). The Mission Inverter, Oasis Plus 3D, MTIU cassette/duct and older wall-mount service manuals all describe it the same way: an abnormal voltage rise or drop is detected by checking the specified voltage detection circuit. In plain terms, the voltage feeding the inverter drive, either the incoming AC supply or the DC bus the outdoor board makes from it, went outside the range the control accepts. Midea's check for a technician is the DC voltage between the P and N terminals on the outdoor board: about 310, 340 or 380 V DC in standby (Midea's remark says the normal value is around 310 V) and between 220 and 400 V DC once the unit starts. On older Midea wall units that use indicator lamps instead of a display, P1 shows as the operation lamp flashing 2 times with the timer lamp flashing. Newer Midea manuals, such as the Light Commercial Inverter (R32) and PortaSplit service manuals, use the code PC 01 for the same over or low voltage protection (2 flashes on the light commercial table), and add related codes PC 10, PC 11 and PC 12 for low AC voltage and DC bus high voltage.

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.

  1. Write down the code and when it shows up (right at power-up, on startup, or after running a while). That helps a technician tell a supply problem from a board problem.
  2. Check the outdoor disconnect and the breaker for the mini split. A breaker that feels warm, buzzes or keeps tripping needs an electrician.
  3. Notice whether lights dim or other appliances act up when the mini split starts, or whether P1 appears during storms or brownouts. Those point to the power supply, which is Midea's first check.
  4. Turn the system off at the breaker, wait a few minutes, then restore power and restart. If P1 clears and doesn't come back, it may have been a one-time voltage dip.
  5. If P1 keeps returning, stop resetting it and call a licensed HVAC technician or electrician. Don't open the outdoor unit's electrical box: Midea warns that electricity remains in the capacitors even when the power is off.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • Measure the supply voltage at the outdoor unit and confirm it is within the nameplate range. If the supply is the problem, Midea's chart says to turn the unit off until it is corrected.
  • Check the power and interconnecting wiring, the L and N terminals and every connection on the outdoor board; correct the connections or replace damaged wires.
  • With the capacitors safely discharged and the cover off, power on and measure DC voltage between P and N: about 310, 340 or 380 V DC in standby and 220 to 400 V DC once the compressor starts. If it is out of range, Midea's flowchart says to replace the IPM board.
  • If the P to N voltage is normal, follow Midea's chart to the reactor and then the outdoor main PCB; on models with a sealed electric control box, newer Midea manuals skip the P to N step and handle the box as a unit.
  • On newer units showing PC 01, PC 10, PC 11 or PC 12, use that model's service manual section, which follows the same supply, wiring, P to N and reactor checks.

Parts that commonly fix it

Always match the part number to your exact model.

Outdoor control board or IPM board (exact part for your outdoor model)

Midea replaces the IPM board when the P to N DC voltage is wrong and the outdoor main board at the end of the chart; match the outdoor unit's model number.
