Midea Mini Split Error Code P0: IPM Malfunction or IGBT Over-Current Protection (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-24 ยท Based on 3 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Midea's error tables list P0 as "IPM malfunction or IGBT over-strong current protection". The Oasis Plus 3D and older wall-mount inverter service manuals give the same trigger: when the voltage signal the IPM sends to the compressor drive chip is abnormal, the display shows P0 and the AC turns off. The IPM contains the IGBT transistors that switch power to the inverter compressor, so P0 usually means the compressor drive saw too much current or the module itself failed. On older Midea wall units with indicator lamps instead of a display, P0 shows as the operation lamp flashing once with the timer lamp flashing. Newer Midea manuals, such as the Light Commercial Inverter (R32) series, use the code PC 00 for the same fault (7 flashes on that table) and troubleshoot it together with PC 04, the inverter compressor drive error. Don't confuse P0 with F0, which Midea's Oasis table lists separately as overload current protection.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.

  1. Write down when P0 appears: right at startup, after running a while, or only on hot days. That helps a technician separate a wiring or module fault from an airflow problem.
  2. Look at the outdoor unit from the outside. Clear leaves, snow, plants and anything stacked against it so air can move freely through the coil and fan, since Midea's chart checks the outdoor fan and ventilation.
  3. With the unit running, see whether the outdoor fan is turning. If the compressor hums but the fan sits still, tell the technician.
  4. Turn the system off at the breaker, wait a few minutes, then restore power and restart once. If P0 comes right back, stop resetting it, because repeated restarts on a failing drive can do more damage.
  5. Call a licensed HVAC technician. Don't open the outdoor unit's electrical box: Midea warns that electricity remains in the capacitors even when the power supply is off.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • Discharge the electrolytic capacitors fully before touching anything, as Midea's safety caution requires.
  • Check the wiring and connectors between the outdoor PCB and the compressor (U, V, W). Correct the connections or replace the wires and connectors if anything is wrong.
  • Do Midea's IPM continuity check: power off, capacitors discharged, IPM dismounted, then measure with a digital tester from P to N, U, V and W, and from U, V and W to N. Normal is infinite resistance (several megohms). If it fails, replace the IPM board or the outdoor PCB.
  • If the IPM is good, check the outdoor fan and the outdoor unit's ventilation; if the fan isn't working properly, follow Midea's outdoor fan speed out of control procedure.
  • Measure the compressor winding resistances against the values for that compressor model in the service manual; if they are out of range, replace the compressor. If everything checks good, replace the outdoor PCB. On some models the outdoor board can't be removed separately, so the whole outdoor electric control box is replaced.

Outdoor control board or IPM board (exact part for your outdoor model)

Midea replaces the IPM board or outdoor PCB when the IPM continuity check fails, and the outdoor PCB at the end of the chart; match the outdoor unit's model number.
