Beko Washing Machine Error Code E29: Self-Protection Mode Because of a Supply Problem

What the code means

Beko's user manuals for its newer washers (for example the BM1WU3721, BM5WFU611415WB2T-EE, TB621EESEE and TB6521EESEE models) list E29 in their failure code table as "The product has switched to self protection mode due to a supply problem (line voltage, water pressure, etc.)." The solution Beko gives is: "To cancel the programme, turn the Programme Selection knob to select another programme. Previous programme will be cancelled. If the issue persists, call the service." The same manuals' troubleshooting section says that if programmes won't start after the door is closed, the product may have switched to self-protection mode because of a supply problem, and you can cancel the programme by selecting another one or by holding the On/Off button for 3 seconds, depending on the model. The word "etc." means voltage and water pressure are examples, not the full list. On these models the table sits under the cycle-counter section: with the machine off, holding the two auxiliary function buttons named in your manual (1 and 2 on BM1WU3721, 2 and 5 on TB621EESEE) shows the total number of washes and then any stored failure codes, so E29 can also appear as a record of an earlier event. Beko doesn't publish one code list for every washer, so check your own manual's table if your model is different. This is a different code from E5 (pump filter or drain) and E18 (unbalanced load).

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. Cancel the programme the way Beko describes: turn the programme selection knob to a different programme (on some models, hold the On/Off button for 3 seconds). If the door won't open because water is above the door line, select the Pump+Spin programme to drain first.
  2. Start the wash again and see whether E29 returns. A one-off E29 after a power flicker or a water outage usually needs nothing more.
  3. If the machine is on an extension lead or multi-socket adaptor, plug it straight into a grounded wall socket. Beko's manuals say not to use extension cords and to use a socket protected by a 13 A fuse.
  4. Check the water tap to the machine is fully open, and that the inlet hose isn't kinked or folded behind the machine.
  5. Run a nearby cold tap to see whether the house water pressure looks normal. Beko's manuals ask for 10 to 80 litres a minute from the tap; if the pressure is low across the house, the problem is the supply, not the washer.
  6. If lights dim or other appliances stutter when the washer starts, have an electrician check the circuit. Don't open the machine or work on wiring yourself.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • E29 keeps coming back with the machine on its own wall socket and good water pressure: call Beko's service (UK: 0333 207 9710, Ireland: 01 862 3411), as the manual says to.
  • Lights flicker, breakers trip or sockets feel warm: get a qualified electrician to check the supply before using the washer again.
  • Water pressure is weak across the whole house: a plumber or your water supplier can check the incoming supply.
  • The machine is under Beko's guarantee: use Beko's own repair service so you don't affect your cover.

Parts that commonly fix it

Always match the part number to your exact model.

โš™

Washing machine inlet hose

Only if the old one is kinked, split or perished. Check it's the right length so it doesn't fold behind the machine.

Washing machine control board

Only if a Beko engineer finds an internal fault after the supply has been ruled out. Order by your exact model number.
