Bosch Dryer E08 Error Code: Drum Temperature Sensor (NTC) / Electronic Fault
What the code means
Bosch's US dryer error code guide lists E08 with E06, E09, E24, E25, E28, E36 and E90 as an electronic fault/error that can only be eliminated by an authorized technician. Bosch Middle East has a dedicated E08 page with the same message (a fault with the electronics, to be eliminated by an experienced engineer), and Bosch Singapore describes the E08 to E90 group as a fault detected in the heating circuit. The more specific meaning comes from Bosch's service manual error list for the WTG865H2UC dryer, as quoted by the technician reference MyPros+: E:08 = drum temperature NTC defective, a drying tunnel inlet NTC error, and the first diagnostic step is to check the NTC wire harness and connectors. An NTC is a temperature sensor (thermistor) whose resistance changes with heat; the inlet sensor tells the control how hot the air entering the drum is, so if its reading makes no sense the control stops the dryer and shows E08. Because that service description comes from one model's manual, other Bosch models may use E08 slightly differently, which is why the technician should confirm it. E08 is the inlet-side sensor; E09 on the same list is the outlet (heating circuit) sensor, and E90 shares Bosch's consumer wording (see our Bosch E09 and E90 pages).
Likely causes
- A defective drum temperature sensor (NTC) at the drying tunnel inlet (Bosch WTG865H2UC service error list, via MyPros+)
- A loose, corroded or damaged NTC wire harness or connector, which is the first thing that service list says to check
- A fault in the dryer's electronic control, which is how Bosch's US and Middle East error code tables describe E08
- A temporary electronics glitch after a power interruption, which a 5-minute power reset can sometimes clear (Bosch US guide)
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.
- Turn the dryer off and note the exact code and your model number (E-Nr) from the rating label inside the door.
- Power reset: unplug the dryer or switch off its circuit breaker for at least 5 minutes, then restore power. Bosch says a power cycle can often clear error codes and reset the electronics.
- Run a short program with a small load. If it finishes normally, watch the next few loads.
- Clean the lint filter (and on condenser models the heat exchanger, as Bosch recommends). It won't fix a sensor fault, but it rules out airflow problems behind other codes.
- If E08 returns, stop there. The sensor and its wiring sit inside the cabinet, and Bosch says this fault is for an authorized technician, so don't open the dryer or bypass anything.
๐ When to call a pro
- E08 comes back after a 5-minute power reset: call Bosch Customer Support at 1-800-944-2904 (US) or book an authorized Bosch technician, and give them the E-Nr.
- Mention that the service list for some models points E08 to the drying tunnel inlet (drum temperature) NTC, so the technician can bring the right sensor.
- The technician checks the NTC harness and connectors first, then the sensor's resistance, and only then the control board.
- The dryer smells of burning, trips the breaker or shows several electronic codes: unplug it and leave it off until it's been inspected.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Dryer temperature sensor (NTC thermistor)
Only after a technician confirms the inlet NTC failed. Match the part to your Bosch E-Nr.
Search eBay โDryer control board
Only if the sensor and harness test good. Boards are model-specific; match your E-Nr.
