Bosch Dryer E09 Error Code: Temperature Sensor (NTC) / Electronic Fault

Reviewed 2026-10-25 ยท Based on 4 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Bosch's US dryer error code guide lists E09 with E06, E08, E24, E25, E28, E36 and E90 as an electronic fault/error that can only be eliminated by an authorized technician. Bosch Middle East has a dedicated E09 page with the same message (a fault with the electronics, to be eliminated by an experienced engineer), and Bosch Singapore describes the E08 to E90 group as a fault detected in the heating circuit. The more specific meaning comes from Bosch's service manual error list for the WTG865H2UC heat pump dryer, as quoted by the technician reference MyPros+: E:09 = heating circuit NTC defective, meaning the drying tunnel outlet NTC on heater (vented or condenser) dryers or the cooling circuit NTC on heat pump dryers, and the first diagnostic step is to check the NTC wire harness and connectors. An NTC is a temperature sensor (thermistor) whose resistance changes with heat; if the control reads a value that makes no sense, it stops the dryer and shows E09. Because that service description comes from one model's manual, other Bosch models may use E09 slightly differently, which is why the technician should confirm it. E09 shares Bosch's consumer wording with E90 (see our Bosch E90 page), but it is a separate code.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.

  1. Turn the dryer off and note the exact code and your model number (E-Nr) from the rating label inside the door.
  2. Power reset: unplug the dryer or switch off its circuit breaker for at least 5 minutes, then restore power. Bosch says a power cycle can often clear error codes and reset the electronics.
  3. Run a short program with a small load. If it finishes normally, watch the next few loads.
  4. Clean the lint filter (and on condenser models the heat exchanger, as Bosch recommends). It won't fix a sensor fault, but it rules out airflow problems behind other codes.
  5. If E09 returns, stop there. The sensors and their wiring sit inside the cabinet, and Bosch says this fault is for an authorized technician, so don't open the dryer or bypass anything.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • E09 comes back after a 5-minute power reset: call Bosch Customer Support at 1-800-944-2904 (US) or book an authorized Bosch technician, and give them the E-Nr.
  • Tell the technician whether your dryer is a heat pump or a heater (vented or condenser) model, since the service list points to a different NTC sensor on each.
  • The technician checks the NTC harness and connectors first, then the sensor's resistance, and only then the control board.
  • The dryer smells of burning, trips the breaker or shows several electronic codes: unplug it and leave it off until it's been inspected.

Parts that commonly fix it

Always match the part number to your exact model.

โš™

Dryer temperature sensor (NTC thermistor)

Only after a technician confirms which NTC failed. Match the part to your Bosch E-Nr; heat pump and heater models use different sensors.

Multimeter

What a technician uses to check NTC resistance and harness continuity.

Dryer control board

Only if the sensor and harness test good. Boards are model-specific; match your E-Nr.
