Frigidaire Dishwasher i30: Leak or Overflow in the Bottom Pan (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-22 · Based on 6 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Frigidaire's owner's manuals list i30 as "A leak or overflow of water has been detected in the bottom pan" and tell owners to look for loose connections at the water inlet valve and make sure the unit is properly leveled. Some models show the same code as E30. Electrolux's dishwasher technical service manual (5995668042), which covers the same Frigidaire/Electrolux platform, explains what happens: the unit stops and the drain pump runs continuously. Its technician checks are loose sump hoses or leaking around the sump, whether the overflow float is in its lower position and moves freely, and soil buildup in the sump. Because the code comes from a float that water lifts, it won't clear until the pan is dry and the float drops back down, which is why some owners see i30 go away on its own a day or two later. Frigidaire's general rule for its error codes is to press Cancel or turn the breaker off for 5 minutes, and to call Frigidaire Customer Care at 1-800-944-9044 if that doesn't clear it.

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. Press Cancel, then turn the dishwasher off at the breaker so the drain pump stops, and close the water supply valve under the sink.
  2. Wipe up any water on the floor and keep it away from outlets and cords.
  3. Open the door and look for suds in the tub. If you find them, rinse them out, wipe up any spilled rinse aid, and from now on use only automatic dishwasher detergent in the dispenser at the recommended amount (or one tablet).
  4. Check the supply hose at the water inlet valve for a loose connection, drips or kinks.
  5. Check the dishwasher is level side to side and front to back, and that the door closes and latches fully with nothing (including the kick plate) in the way.
  6. Clean the filter and glass trap and clear any food soil from the sump.
  7. If the dishwasher was just installed, check the drain hose is installed per the guide and not blocked, and that the disposer knockout plug was removed.
  8. Give the base pan time to dry so the float drops. Repair guides note this can take a day or more unless the pan is dried by hand, which means removing the kick plate or pulling the dishwasher out.
  9. Restore water and power and run a short cycle while you watch under the sink and at the front for drips. If i30 returns, the leak source needs finding.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • i30 comes back after the pan has dried and you've ruled out suds, the inlet connection, leveling and the door.
  • Water is leaking from inside the cabinet: the sump, sump hoses, pump seals or hose clamps. The Electrolux service manual checks start there.
  • The pan is dry but i30 stays on and the drain pump keeps running, which points to a stuck or faulty overflow float switch or its wiring.
  • Removing the dishwasher from the cabinet or working on the base pan, sump or float switch.
  • The dishwasher was installed within the last 30 days (Frigidaire says to go back to the installer) or is under warranty. Call Frigidaire at 1-800-944-9044 rather than opening it up.
