Samsung Dishwasher Error Code LC (LE): Leak Sensor Detected Moisture (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)
What the code means
Samsung lists LC and LE as the leakage error: the dishwasher's leak sensor detects moisture. When it trips, the dishwasher turns itself on, won't turn off, and tries to drain the water away. Samsung notes the code can appear even if you can't see a leak, because any moisture near the sensor sets it off, including excess detergent, which stays wet longer than water. On models without a digital display the same error shows as a blinking-light pattern. Samsung US adds that on Waterwall models LC can also mean the water reflector is blocked. Samsung UK lists the possible sources as a loose or holed supply or drain hose, a worn drain pump gasket, a defective tub, hand-dish soap or too much detergent or rinse aid, a clogged filter, and a dishwasher that leans forward.
Likely causes
- Loose water supply hose connection, or a hole in the supply or drain hose
- Hand dish soap instead of dishwasher detergent, or too much detergent or rinse aid, causing suds or residue to reach the sensor
- Water splashed into the base after the dishwasher was moved or installed
- Garbage disposal knockout plug left in after connecting the drain hose
- Door seal pushed out of its channel or dirty, or the dishwasher leaning forward so water pools at the door
- Clogged filter or food blocking spray nozzles so water is sprayed at the door
- Waterwall models: the water reflector is blocked by a dish or utensil
- Worn drain pump gasket, damaged dispenser or a leaking tub (service repairs)
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.
- Turn the dishwasher off at the circuit breaker (or unplug it). Samsung says it will keep running to drain until the moisture is gone, so leave it without power while you troubleshoot.
- If you see water, close the water supply valve, then check the supply hose at both ends and along its length for moisture, damage or loose connections. Tighten a loose connection. Samsung recommends a 3/8 inch stainless steel braided supply hose if it needs replacing.
- Check the drain hose connection to the sink drain or disposal. If you recently connected to a garbage disposal, make sure the disposal's knockout plug was removed.
- Make sure you are using dishwasher detergent, not dish soap, and not too much of it. Don't overfill the dispenser or add detergent outside it, and wipe up spilled rinse aid with a damp towel.
- Push the door's rubber seal back into its channel if it has popped out, and wipe it clean with a mild soapy towel.
- Clean the filter and any clogged spray nozzles. On Waterwall models, make sure nothing is blocking the water reflector.
- Level the dishwasher with its feet so it doesn't lean forward. Samsung also says the opening at the cabinet screws should measure exactly 22 inches; if it's wider, loosen the screws.
- Give the base time to dry completely (Samsung doesn't give a set time), then restore power. If LC comes back, request service.
🛠 When to call a pro
- LC returns after the base has dried and you've checked the hoses, detergent, seal and leveling.
- Water is leaking from the drain hose anywhere other than its connection to your home's drain. Samsung treats that as a service repair.
- You suspect the drain pump gasket, the detergent dispenser, the tub or a damaged door seal. Samsung lists these as service-center repairs.
- Water has reached the floor or cabinets. Keep the water supply off and the breaker off until it's repaired.
- The dishwasher is under warranty. Request Samsung service rather than opening the base.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
3/8 inch braided stainless dishwasher supply line
Samsung recommends stainless steel over plastic hoses, which are more prone to leaks. The supply hose isn't covered by Samsung service.

Use real dishwasher detergent, never hand dish soap, and only the amount the dispenser holds.

Clean or replace a clogged filter. Match the part to your model number.

Only if the hose itself is split. Samsung treats leaks along the drain hose, other than its connection to your home, as a service repair.
