Code: F3๐Ÿ”ง Haier Mini Split

Haier Mini Split Error Code F3: Power Module (IPM) and Outdoor Board Not Communicating (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-24 ยท Based on 3 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Haier's service manuals list F3 as "Communication fault between the IPM and outdoor PCB" (FlexFit: "Communication failure between Module and ECU"). On the outdoor board the same fault shows as LED1 flashing 4 times. Both boards sit inside the outdoor unit: the outdoor PCB (Haier also calls it the mainboard or ECU) runs the system, and the IPM module (power module or module board) drives the inverter compressor. Haier's manuals say the fault is detected by checking communication between the two, and that a broken outdoor PCB, a broken IPM module or a disconnected communication wire between them can cause it. This is different from E7, which is lost communication between the indoor and outdoor units.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

The outdoor inverter board and power module hold high DC voltage on their capacitors even after the power is off. Only a qualified technician should open the outdoor unit, unplug or reseat connectors (with power off, as Haier warns) or take live voltage readings.

  1. Turn the mini split off at the breaker or disconnect, wait a few minutes, then turn it back on. A one-time F3 after a power blip may clear.
  2. Look at the outside of the outdoor unit for signs of trouble such as water getting in, pest damage or a recent storm surge, and mention anything you find to the technician.
  3. Don't open the outdoor unit yourself. Both boards inside hold high voltage, and the checks below need to be done by a technician.
  4. If F3 keeps coming back, call a licensed HVAC technician and tell them the code, the outdoor LED flash count if you can see it (4 flashes) and the model numbers of both units.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • With the power off, check the plugs between the outdoor PCB and the IPM module. Haier's Advanced Series manual names the MODULE COM and MODULE POWER plugs and the P and N wires; connector numbers vary by model (FlexFit single-zone text: CN-9 on both boards; Haier flowcharts: CN23/CN24 or CN22/CN23 on the outdoor board and CN10/CN11 on the module). Reseat any loose plug and replace a damaged connecting wire.
  • If the connections are good, power the unit back on and measure the module power connector on the outdoor PCB: about 5 VDC between pins 1 and 2 and about 15 VDC between pins 2 and 3.
  • If either voltage is missing, Haier's flowcharts say to replace the outdoor PCB.
  • If both voltages are present, replace the IPM (power) module.
  • Haier's Advanced Series manual lists the power module and the outdoor PCB as the spare parts for this fault. Match part numbers to the exact outdoor model.
