Code: E4๐Ÿงบ Haier Washer

Haier Washer E4 Error Code: Not Filling With Water in Time (Tap, Pressure, Inlet Filter, Drain Hose)

What the code means

Haier's own troubleshooting pages describe E4 as "no water inlets or required water level does not reach in the prescriptive time" (Haier India) and, for front loaders, "Water inlet timeout" (Haier Malaysia). On the U.S. Haier combination washer/dryer chart the same code reads "After 8 minutes, the selected water level has not been reached." The causes Haier lists are: the water tap is closed or the supply has been interrupted, the water inlet valve (its filter screen) is blocked, the water pressure is too low, and the inlet hose is kinked so water comes in slowly. Haier's Australian HWT10MW2 top-loader manual adds "Is the drain hose set too low?" and says the end of the drain hose should sit between 800 mm and 1200 mm high; Haier Malaysia says the same for upper-drain machines (outlet higher than 80 cm, highest point lower than 100 cm) and warns that a drain hose pushed too deep into a floor drain makes the machine siphon, so water drains while it fills. The manual gives the machine's supply pressure range as 0.03 to 1.0 MPa. After fixing the cause, press Start/Pause once to carry on (Haier India's top-load page says to open and close the lid first). E4 is a different fault from FA, which Haier lists separately as a failed water level sensor.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. Make sure the tap feeding the washer is turned fully on, and run a nearby tap to confirm the house has water and normal pressure. If pressure is low or the water is off, wait until it's back to normal.
  2. Pull the washer out a little and straighten the inlet hose along its length so nothing is kinked or crushed.
  3. Clean the inlet valve filter: turn the tap off, unplug the washer, put a towel down, and unscrew the inlet hose from the back of the machine. Pull out the small mesh filter with pliers, rinse off grit or scale, refit it and reconnect the hose hand-tight.
  4. Check the drain hose: Haier says its end should sit between about 80 cm and 100 to 120 cm high (see your manual), and it shouldn't be pushed deep into the floor drain or standpipe, which lets water siphon out while the machine fills.
  5. Turn the tap back on, check for leaks, plug in, and press Start/Pause once (on a top loader, open and close the lid first). Watch that water starts coming in within a minute or so.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • The tap is fully on, pressure is normal, the hoses and inlet filter are clear, the drain hose is set correctly, and E4 still appears: the inlet valve or water level sensor probably needs testing.
  • Water keeps running in when the machine is off, or the machine shows FA (water level sensor failure), which Haier says needs service.
  • The washer is under warranty: contact Haier service (in the U.S., Haier Appliances at 1-877-337-3639) rather than opening it up.
