LG Mini Split CH67 Error Code: Outdoor Fan Lock (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)
What the code means
LG's R410A air conditioner service manual lists error 67 as "Fan Lock Error" ("Outdoor Unit Fan Lock" in its outdoor unit error table). The detection point is the outdoor fan speed: CH67 sets when the fan turns at 10 RPM or less for 5 seconds as the outdoor fan starts, or drops to 40 RPM or less after it has started. LG's support pages group CH67 with EF as outdoor unit fan errors, and CH10 with E6 as indoor unit fan errors, so a CH10 points you at the indoor head instead. When these fan components don't work properly, LG notes the air conditioner may stop operating.
Likely causes
- Something physically jamming the outdoor fan, such as leaves, sticks, a nest, or ice and heavy snowfall. LG lists fan lock by heavy snowfall as a main reason, and its support page names snow and leaves first.
- A fan motor that is defective or not assembled correctly, for example a blade loose on the shaft or rubbing the shroud.
- A wrong or loose connection at the fan motor connector between the motor and the inverter board.
- The fan turning backwards after the speed target is applied, which LG lists as its own cause (for example from wind spinning the blade, or a motor or wiring fault).
- A defective inverter (outdoor) circuit board assembly that drives the fan motor.
Safe DIY checks
Always kill power at the breaker or outdoor disconnect before touching the outdoor fan; it can start without warning when the unit is energized. LG warns not to disassemble the air conditioner or replace internal parts yourself, since doing so may cause fire, electric shock, serious injury or death. Inverter boards hold a high-voltage charge after power is removed, so board and motor testing is a job for a trained technician.
- Turn the unit off at the remote, then switch off the breaker or outdoor disconnect before you go near the fan.
- Look through the outdoor unit's fan grille. With gloves on, remove leaves, debris, snow or ice you can reach without opening the cabinet, and clear snow drifts around the unit.
- With power still off, check whether the fan blade turns freely by gently pushing it through the grille with a stick. LG's own check is that the fan turns by hand; if it is stiff, grinding or won't move, the motor needs service.
- Wait about five minutes, then restore power and run the unit again, as LG's reset steps say.
- If CH67 comes back, stop using the air conditioner and contact a licensed HVAC technician or LG Support.
๐ When to call a pro
- Checking the fan motor's mounting and fan locking first. LG's flowchart says to reassemble or replace parts if the motor assembly is abnormal.
- Measuring the motor. LG's flowchart checks the resistance between each phase (U, V, W) of the outdoor fan motor terminals and the insulation resistance of those terminals, and replaces the fan motor if either is abnormal. The correct values are model-specific, so use the service manual for your unit.
- Checking the wiring between the outdoor fan motor and the inverter board, including that the motor output terminal colors are matched, and reassembling the connection if it's wrong.
- Replacing the inverter PCB assembly if the motor and wiring test good. LG's manual also gives a fan IPM diode-mode check for the board.
- If everything tests normal, LG says to recheck the power supply and the installation conditions.
