LG Oven F3 Error Code: Touch Pad Key Short (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)
What the code means
LG USA's Range Error Codes List says F3 "indicates a Touch Pad Sensor Key Error." LG Canada's F-3 article explains that it means a button is stuck in a continuously shorted state, caused by a short somewhere in the keypad or the wire harness leading to the button, and that the button itself isn't necessarily at fault. The LG LRE3061 service manual lists F3 as "Button short": the control logs it when any button reads as continuously pressed for 60 seconds or more, and the check points are the wiring and, on keypad models, the keypad. (LG Canada's article also contains a line calling F-3 an open oven sensor, which conflicts with the rest of that article and with LG's US list and service manual; LG uses F1 for an open oven sensor.)
Likely causes
- A temporary control glitch that a power reset clears
- Something resting on the control panel, or a key being pressed for a long time
- Moisture or a spill getting under the touch pad
- A loose or damaged connection between the keypad ribbon and the main control board
- A shorted wire in the harness leading to the keypad
- A failed keypad (membrane) assembly
- Less often, a faulty main control board that misreads the keys
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.
- Press CLEAR/OFF to stop the beeping, and make sure nothing is leaning on or sitting against the control panel.
- Wipe the control panel dry with a soft cloth if it's wet or greasy. Don't use abrasive cleaners, which LG says can damage the panel's coating.
- Reset the range: switch off its circuit breaker (or unplug it). LG's US list says wait 30 seconds; LG Canada's F-3 article says 3 to 5 minutes. Waiting the longer time covers both.
- Turn the power back on and try the buttons. If the Control Lock or Child Lock is on, LG says to hold Cancel (or the lock key) for about 4 seconds to unlock before deciding the keys are dead.
- If F3 comes back after the reset, write down your model number and request service. Don't pry up the keypad or open the control panel yourself.
🛠 When to call a pro
- F3 returns after a full power reset. LG says the range then needs a technician.
- A technician will check the keypad's connection to the main board first, then replace the keypad and test each key in the service key-test mode, and replace the main control board only if keys still don't register (the order in LG's service manual).
- The panel is cracked, bubbled, or liquid got inside it.
- The range is under warranty, or you want LG's flat-rate repair. Book through LG's support site with the model and serial number ready.
