LG Oven F19 Error Code: Lower Oven Not Heating (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)
What the code means
LG USA's Range Error Codes List says F19 indicates an oven heating error, in the same list where F9 means the upper oven is not heating properly. LG's service manual for the LDG3015 double-oven gas range spells out the trigger: F-19 (No heating) sets if the current lower oven temperature does not exceed 150°F, or is lower than the start temperature, more than 5 minutes into preheating with the door closed. Proof, Warm and Broil are excluded. F-9 is the identical check for the upper oven. LG's manuals say F9 and F19 show on the display immediately, while some other F-codes are only stored in memory. Related lower-oven codes are F4 and F5 (lower oven sensor open or shorted), F16 (lower oven too hot) and F20 (lower oven door lock).
Likely causes
- A temporary control glitch that a reset clears, which is why LG's first steps are CLEAR/OFF and a 30-second breaker reset.
- Gas double-oven ranges: a weak or failed lower bake igniter. LG's service flowchart has the technician measure each igniter's resistance (about 45 to 400 ohms cold) and replace a failed one.
- Gas ranges: a bake gas (safety) valve that doesn't open; LG's flowchart checks its coil at about 1 to 1.5 ohms.
- Electric double-oven ranges: an open or shorted lower bake element, since LG's electric service manuals check heater resistance for F9 and F19.
- Loose or burned wiring between the relay board, igniters or elements and the oven system board (LG's first check in the F-9/F-19 flowchart).
- A lower oven temperature sensor reading wrong (LG's manual expects about 1.06 to 1.12 kilohms at 65 to 85°F).
- A failed relay board or oven system (main) board, which LG's flowchart replaces only after the igniters, valve, wiring and sensor test good.
- Gas supply off or low after the range was moved, or the door left open during preheat so the temperature never climbs.
Safe DIY checks
F19 testing involves gas burners, a gas valve and 120/240 V wiring. Turn the breaker off and let the oven cool before any panel comes off, and leave gas parts to a qualified technician. If you smell gas, leave and call your gas utility.
- Press CLEAR/OFF (or turn the oven off), then start the lower oven again. LG says that is the first step for F19.
- If F19 comes back, turn the range's circuit breaker off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on, as LG's error code list directs.
- Keep the lower oven door closed during preheat. LG's F19 check runs only with the door closed, and an open door loses heat.
- Gas range: if the range was recently pulled out, make sure the house gas shutoff and the range's pressure regulator are both open.
- Gas range: start a lower bake and watch through the window or bottom vent. If the igniter never glows, or glows but the burner never lights, that points to the igniter or valve; turn the oven off and don't remove panels yourself.
- Electric range: check that the breaker is fully on (a half-tripped double-pole breaker can keep the display lit with no heat). If the lower element looks blistered or split, stop using that oven.
- If F19 still returns after the reset, note the model number and request service, as LG directs.
🛠 When to call a pro
- F19 returns after a CLEAR/OFF and a 30-second breaker reset; LG says the range then needs service.
- You smell gas at any time: turn the oven off, don't operate switches, leave the home and call your gas utility.
- The igniter, gas valve, bake element, sensor or wiring needs testing. LG's flowchart measures these with the power off and the oven cool, then checks the sensor in test mode with power on, which is technician work on live 120/240 V and gas parts.
- The relay board or oven system board may need replacing; LG's flowchart only gets there after every other part tests normal.
- The range is under warranty. Book through LG's Request a Repair page with your model and serial number.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Oven bake igniter (gas ranges)
Only after a technician confirms it's weak or open; LG's manual gives a cold resistance of about 45 to 400 ohms. Match the part to your full model number.
Search eBay →Oven bake element (electric ranges)
Only if a meter shows the lower element is open or shorted. Match the part to your range's model number.
Search eBay →Digital multimeter
For checking igniter, valve, element and sensor resistance with the power off at the breaker and the oven cool.
Search eBay →Oven temperature sensor
Replace only if it reads well outside about 1.06 to 1.12 kilohms at room temperature.
