Frigidaire Oven F11 Error Code: Shorted Key or Keypad (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-22 · Based on 5 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Frigidaire's service data sheets list F11 as "Shorted keypad or selector switch." The FPGS3085PF installation sheet explains the logic: if the control detects a key as pressed for a long period, it treats it as a shorted key, sounds an alarm and terminates all oven activity. Sears PartsDirect's code list for 2004-and-newer Frigidaire self-cleaning electric ranges says the same thing: the electronic oven control board's keyboard is shorted. The code can be set by a real short in the touchpad (moisture, heat damage or a worn membrane), by a poor ribbon-cable connection between the touchpad and the control, or by a failed control board. It can also be set by a person: Frigidaire's own calibration instructions warn that holding the Bake pad longer than about 15 seconds during temperature adjustment may cause the F11 shorted keypad alarm.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.

  1. Make sure nothing is pressing on the control panel (a pan handle, towel or anything leaning on it) and press Stop or Cancel.
  2. Reset the power the way Frigidaire recommends: unplug the range for 30 seconds and plug it back in, or turn the breaker off and on if you can't reach the plug. The breaker resets everything on that circuit.
  3. If the panel was recently wiped down with a wet cloth or spray, turn the power off and let it dry completely before trying again. Clean the touchpad with a barely damp cloth, not spray cleaner.
  4. If you were changing the oven calibration, don't hold the Bake pad longer than about 15 seconds; Frigidaire's instructions say holding it longer can cause the F11 alarm.
  5. If you're comfortable with basic appliance work, switch the breaker off, open the control panel and reseat the touchpad's ribbon cable at the control board, which is the second step on Frigidaire's service sheet.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • F11 comes back after the 30-second power reset and you've ruled out anything pressing on the panel.
  • Keys beep or act on their own, or one key doesn't respond. That points to a shorted or worn touchpad.
  • The touchpad tests good. Frigidaire's service sheets then call for replacing the electronic oven control.
  • On many Frigidaire ranges the touchpad overlay and control are sold together, so a technician can confirm which part your model needs.
  • The range is under warranty. Contact Frigidaire support or schedule service rather than opening the control panel.
