Samsung Microwave C-d1 Error Code: Door or Key Error
What the code means
Samsung Canada's microwave error code table lists "C-d0, C-d1, C-d2" as "Door or Key Error", and Samsung US and Samsung France group the same three codes the same way (Samsung France: "Erreur de porte ou de touche", check the door switches and test the keypad). Samsung doesn't publish a separate microwave definition for each of the three. The first of them, C-d0, is the stuck or held touch key (the same fault as SE or 5E on other models; see our Samsung SE page). On Samsung built-in and freestanding ovens, C-d1 means "Door lock malfunctions", but microwaves don't have a motorised door lock, so on a microwave read C-d1 as a door or key-input fault rather than a lock fault. Samsung's routine for any microwave error is the same: unplug the microwave or turn it off at the circuit breaker; if the electronics got wet from a spill or steam from the cooktop, give it time to dry, otherwise wait 60 seconds; then power it back on and request service if the code returns. When a US owner reported C-d1 on a two-week-old over-the-range microwave that a power cycle, cleaning the latch area and toggling the control lock didn't clear, Samsung's support moderator replied that C-d1 indicates the microwave will need service. The parts involved (door interlock switches, the door latch and the keypad or control board) sit behind panels near the high-voltage circuit, so testing them is a job for a technician.
Likely causes
- The door isn't fully closing or latching, for example a bent or obstructed latch hook, or food or debris in the door frame (Samsung France's advice is to check the door switches)
- A faulty door interlock switch that doesn't report the door state correctly
- Moisture or grease on or behind the control panel, from a spill, cleaning spray, or steam from the cooktop under an over-the-range model
- A faulty touch keypad (Samsung's guidance is to test the keypad as part of the same door-or-key group)
- A control board fault, if the door and keypad check out
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.
- Open and close the door firmly and check that nothing (a utensil, food, a towel) is stopping it from closing all the way.
- Look at the latch hooks on the door and the slots they go into. If something is stuck in them, unplug the microwave first, then clean it out gently. Don't push anything into the slots.
- Unplug the microwave, or switch it off at the circuit breaker for an over-the-range model, and leave it off for at least 60 seconds before restoring power.
- If liquid or steam may have reached the control panel, wipe it dry and leave the microwave off for a couple of hours (longer is fine) so the electronics dry out. Use the hood fan when cooking on the range below.
- Make sure the control lock (child lock) isn't on, and that nothing is pressing on the keypad.
- If C-d1 still comes back, stop there and request service from Samsung. Don't remove the outer cabinet: a microwave's high-voltage capacitor can hold a dangerous charge even when it's unplugged.
๐ When to call a pro
- C-d1 returns after a 60-second power reset and a drying period: Samsung's guidance is to request service.
- The door is visibly damaged, sagging, or won't latch, or you see sparking or arcing near the door: stop using the microwave, since the door switches are part of its safety interlock.
- The microwave runs with the door open or makes a loud buzz or bang when the door is opened or closed: unplug it and don't use it until it's been checked.
- The microwave is under warranty: Samsung has told owners that C-d1 is a service repair, so contact Samsung rather than opening it up.
