Bosch Dishwasher E24: Not Draining, Drain Hose or Filter Blocked (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-22 · Based on 5 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Bosch USA describes E24 as the dishwasher not draining properly because the drain path is blocked, and the owner's manual troubleshooting table lists E24 as "waste water hose is blocked or kinked" when water is left in the tub at the end of a program. The closely related E25 points at the drain pump itself (blocked, or its cover not locked in place); since both stop the water from leaving, Bosch's fixes overlap. Some Bosch markets show the same fault as F24. You'll usually see standing water in the bottom of the tub, a cycle that pauses or stops, or gurgling or humming while it tries to drain.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. Switch the dishwasher off and unplug it or turn off its breaker before reaching into the tub. Water left in the tub may be very hot, so let it cool.
  2. Remove the filter system (twist the filter cylinder and lift it out, as the manual shows) and rinse the coarse, fine, and micro filters under running water. Scoop or sponge out any standing water.
  3. With the filters out, check the drain pump cover underneath. Bosch says to pry it up with a spoon until it clicks, pull it upward until it resists, then pull it forward. Remove any debris (watch for broken glass), make sure the pump impeller turns freely, and press the cover back down until it clicks and locks.
  4. Check the drain hose behind and under the dishwasher for kinks, sharp bends, or crushing. Straighten it so it runs without kinks to the sink drain or air gap.
  5. If it still won't drain, loosen the hose clamp at the sink drain or siphon, pull the hose off into a bucket, and clear debris from the hose and the siphon spigot. Clean the countertop air gap if you have one, then reconnect and check for leaks.
  6. If the hose connects to a garbage disposal that was recently installed, make sure the knockout plug in the disposal's dishwasher inlet was removed.
  7. Reinstall the filters, restore power, reset the dishwasher per your owner's manual, and run a rinse or drain program to confirm the water clears.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • E24 or E25 keeps returning after the filters, pump cover, and drain hose are all clear.
  • The drain pump hums but won't move water, or the impeller is broken or won't turn even with debris removed.
  • You'd have to pull the dishwasher out of the cabinet to reach or replace the drain hose or pump.
  • The clog is in the household sink drain or disposal beyond the dishwasher connection.
  • Bosch's own advice when the steps don't solve it is to contact Bosch Customer Service (1-800-944-2904 in the US) or book an engineer.
