Bosch Dryer E90 Error Code: Electronic Fault (What to Try and When to Call Service)
What the code means
Bosch's US dryer error code guide groups E06, E08, E09, E24, E25, E28, E36 and E90 under one heading: there is an electronic fault/error, and it can only be eliminated by an authorized technician. Bosch's Middle East (Qatar) error code table says the same thing for E08, E09, E24, E25, E28 and E90: a fault with the electronics, to be fixed by an experienced engineer. Bosch Singapore's page for E08, E09, E24, E25, E28 or E90 words it as a fault detected with the heating circuit that cannot be rectified on its own, and also advises against DIY repairs. In practice, E90 is a control-side fault, so Bosch doesn't give owners a part-level fix. Bosch does say that a power cycle can often clear error codes and reset the dryer's electronics, so it's worth one try before a service call. Owners on repair forums who opened their dryers after E90 have reported failed relays on the power control board, but Bosch doesn't publish that, so treat it as a clue for the technician rather than a confirmed cause.
Likely causes
- A fault detected by the dryer's electronic control, which Bosch's US and Qatar error code tables give for E90
- A fault detected in the heating circuit, which is how Bosch Singapore describes the same group of codes
- A temporary electronics glitch, such as after a power interruption, which a 5-minute power reset can sometimes clear (Bosch US guide)
- Owner-reported, not from Bosch: a worn or failed relay on the power control board on some condenser and heat pump models
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.
- Turn the dryer off and write down the exact code and your model number (E-Nr) from the rating label inside the door.
- Power reset: unplug the dryer or switch off its circuit breaker, leave it off for at least 5 minutes, then restore power. Bosch says this simple power cycle can often clear error codes and reset the electronics.
- Start a short program with a small load. If it runs normally, keep an eye on it for the next few loads.
- Clean the lint filter (and, on condenser models, the heat exchanger) while you're at it, as Bosch recommends for normal operation. This won't fix an electronics fault, but it rules out airflow problems that cause other codes.
- If E90 returns, stop there. Bosch says this fault can only be fixed by an authorized technician, so don't open the cabinet or bypass anything.
๐ When to call a pro
- E90 comes back after a 5-minute power reset: call Bosch Customer Support at 1-800-944-2904 (US) or book an authorized Bosch technician, and give them the model number.
- You hear relays clicking and the drum never turns before E90 shows: mention that to the technician, since owners have traced this pattern to a failed relay on the power board.
- The dryer smells of burning, trips the breaker, or shows several different electronic codes: unplug it and leave it off until it's been inspected.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Dryer control board
Only after a technician confirms the board has failed. Match the part to your Bosch E-Nr; boards are model-specific.
