Haier Washer Error Code FC (FC0, FC1, FC2): Control Board Can't Talk to the Motor Driver
What the code means
Haier Appliances' US error-code chart for its combination washer/dryer lists FC as no feedback signal from the driver unit, service required. Haier's New Zealand owner's manual for the HWT80MW2 top loader describes FC as a communication failure between the display board and the motor driver, with the instruction to contact Customer Care. Haier's support pages in India and Malaysia say FC, FC0, FC1, FC2 and FC3 all mean an internal communication failure that needs a service technician, and Haier's Australian front-loader user guide (HWF75AN1, HWF85AN1, HWF95AN1) lists FC0, FC1 or FC2 as an abnormal communication error, contact after-sales service. The Haier HW80-B14979 front-load service manual breaks the sub-codes down: FC0 is a communication bus error on the main board, FC1 is a fault in the link between the control board and the motor driving board, and FC2 is a fault in the link between the control board and the power board. Because the motor driver controls the drum motor, the washer stops and won't wash or spin while FC is showing.
Likely causes
- A loose, corroded or damaged connector or harness between the control board and the motor driver or power board (FC1 or FC2 on models with sub-codes)
- A failed motor driver (inverter) board that no longer answers the control board
- A failed main control board, or a communication bus fault on it (FC0 in the HW80-B14979 service manual)
- A one-off glitch after a power interruption that clears when the washer is powered down and restarted
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.
- Press Power to stop the cycle. If there's water in the drum, leave the door shut; it stays locked until the water is out.
- Unplug the washer (or switch it off at the wall or breaker) for a few minutes, then plug it back in firmly and start a short rinse and spin. A power reset is a general first step, not one Haier lists for FC, but it's harmless.
- Make sure the washer is on its own outlet, not an extension cord or power strip, so a poor supply isn't mixed up with the fault.
- If FC (or FC0, FC1, FC2) comes back, stop there and book service. Haier's guidance for every FC variant is to contact after-sales service.
- Note the full model and serial number from the label (usually inside the door rim or on the back) and which FC variant is showing; it tells the technician which board link to check first.
๐ When to call a pro
- FC returns after a power reset: book a Haier technician. In the US, Haier Appliances' service line on its error-code page is 1-877-337-3639.
- The washer is still under warranty: don't open it yourself. Haier's guides say improper repairs can cause damage, and the boards sit next to mains-voltage wiring.
- You see burn marks, smell burning, or the breaker trips: leave the washer unplugged and have the wiring and boards checked.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Washer motor control board
The motor driver (inverter) board that stops answering in an FC or FC1 fault. Match the part number on your old board; this is usually a technician repair.
Search eBay โWasher main control board
Replaced when the wiring checks out and the driver board isn't the problem (FC0 points at the main board). Order by your exact model number.
Search eBay โWasher wire harness
Only if the harness between the boards is damaged. Most FC repairs start by reseating these connectors.
