Samsung Dryer dC Error Code (dE, d0, 1 DC): Door Open or Not Latched (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-22 · Based on 5 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Samsung UK, Australia and the Gulf list dC and dE together as "Door is open": the dryer was asked to run with the door open. Samsung US and Canada group dC with dE, dF, do, d0, 1 DC and 1 dF as door-related errors, meaning a problem with the door, its latch, or the sensor that detects whether they are secured; Samsung US says it can happen when the door won't stay closed or won't latch. Samsung UK adds that if Child Lock is on, the message can appear when you open the door even though the dryer isn't running. In Samsung's DV45H service manual the same condition is shown as dE (running the dryer with the door open), with loose or open wire terminals in the door circuit as the thing to check; dF in that manual means an invalid door switch signal.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.

  1. Open the door, check that nothing is caught in the opening or the seal, and close it firmly until it latches.
  2. Check whether Child Lock is on. If it is, turn it off using the button combination shown on your control panel or in your manual.
  3. Reset the dryer: unplug it (or switch off its breaker) for at least 30 seconds, plug it back in, and start the cycle again. Samsung lists this as the first step for any information code.
  4. Look at the latch on the door and the catch on the cabinet. If the door won't stay closed, a part is loose, or the latch is bent or cracked, the latch needs repair or replacement.
  5. With the door open, look for the small switch plunger or lever near the door opening and make sure lint or debris isn't keeping it from being pressed when the door closes.
  6. If you're comfortable with basic testing and the dryer is unplugged, Samsung's DV45H service manual tests the door switch with an ohmmeter: with the switch not pressed, COM to NC (terminals 1 to 3) reads under 1 ohm and COM to NO (1 to 2) reads open; with it pressed, those readings swap. A switch that doesn't change is faulty. Other models may differ, so check your model's manual.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • The code comes back after you've closed the door firmly, turned off Child Lock and reset the power. Samsung says to request service if it remains.
  • The door, hinge or latch is visibly damaged or the door won't stay shut. Samsung US says to request service in that case.
  • The dryer shows dF or 1 dF. Samsung UK says to check for loose or damaged wiring in the door/lock switch circuit and that the door lock/switch may need replacing, which means opening the cabinet.
  • Checking or replacing the door switch requires removing panels and working near 120/240-volt wiring. If you're not comfortable with that, have a technician do it.
