Whirlpool Oven F1 E0 Error Code: Oven Control Memory (EEPROM) Error (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)
What the code means
Whirlpool's Product Help page for ranges says F1 E0 means there may be a problem with the oven control or the associated wiring. On wall ovens, Whirlpool names the user interface (touchpad), the control, or the associated wiring. Whirlpool's service tech sheets are more specific. Tech sheet W11393923A (ranges with the MRC control) lists F1 E0 as "EEPROM communication error". The EEPROM is the memory chip on the control board that stores its settings and calibration, so F1 E0 means the board can't read or write its own memory. Every F1 code in that chart (F1 E0, E5 sensor out of range, E7 board thermistor open or shorted) has the same corrective action: verify the code in diagnostics mode, disconnect power, and replace the oven control. Sears PartsDirect's Whirlpool wall-oven chart likewise lists F1 as a defective electronic oven control (EOC). Because the control is what runs the bake and broil relays, the oven usually won't heat while F1 E0 is showing.
Likely causes
- A temporary glitch in the control's memory, often after a power surge, brownout or outage, which a one-minute power reset clears
- A failed electronic oven control board (the EEPROM memory chip or the circuit that reads it), which is the cause Whirlpool's tech sheet points to when the code persists
- On wall ovens, a problem with the touchpad or the wiring between the touchpad and the control, which Whirlpool's wall-oven help page also lists
- A loose or damaged wiring connection at the control, which Whirlpool's range help page mentions
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.
- Turn off the oven's circuit breaker(s) for one minute, turn them back on, and watch the display for one minute. If F1 E0 doesn't come back, run a short bake cycle to make sure the oven heats normally. This is Whirlpool's own reset.
- If the code comes right back, don't keep cycling power over and over. Whirlpool treats a returning F1 code as a control-board failure.
- If you're handy and the oven is off at the breaker, you can remove the control panel cover and check that the harness connectors and the touchpad ribbon cable are fully seated on the control board. Look for burned or corroded pins. Don't take live voltage readings yourself.
- If a technician-level diagnostics mode is available on your model, Whirlpool's tech sheet uses CANCEL, CANCEL, START to enter it and confirm the stored code before replacing the control.
- If the code still returns, replace the electronic oven control, ordering it by your full model number. Whirlpool's tech sheet says to replace the control, restore power, verify normal operation and then clear the stored faults in diagnostics mode.
🛠 When to call a pro
- F1 E0 returns after the one-minute breaker reset. The fix is a new control board, and a technician can confirm it in service mode first.
- The oven heats when it shouldn't, keeps heating after you cancel, or the door lock behaves oddly. Turn the breaker off and keep it off until it's serviced.
- A built-in wall oven has to be pulled from the cabinet to reach the control.
- The oven is still under warranty. Use Whirlpool's contact or schedule-service options instead of opening it.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Electronic oven control board
The usual fix if F1 E0 returns after a power reset. Order by your full model number, since boards are model-specific.
