Whirlpool Oven F9 or F9 E0 Error Code: Miswired Power Supply (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

What the code means

Whirlpool's error code chart lists F9 and F9 E0 together and says the electrical outlet in the home or the electrical connection to the appliance may be miswired. On wall ovens, Whirlpool says it most often means the oven is wired incorrectly at the home supply or at the hard-wire connection, and specifically to make sure L2 and neutral (N) aren't swapped. Whirlpool's range tech sheet W11392685 labels the same code (F9 on LCC 90/95 controls, F9E0 on LCC 180/190 controls) as "Miswired house / Miswired range". The code isn't always a real wiring fault: Whirlpool explains that unexpected "noise" on the power line during an outage can be read by the control as incorrect voltage, and pressing any keys before the 10-second delay at power-up can also trigger it. If the range or oven was installed recently (Whirlpool says within about 3 months), suspect the installation wiring first.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.

  1. Do Whirlpool's power reset: turn off the oven's circuit breaker(s) or fuse(s) for one minute, turn them back on, then don't touch the controls while you watch the display for one minute to see if the code returns.
  2. If there was a recent outage or storm and the code clears after the reset, try a normal bake to confirm the oven works.
  3. If the range or wall oven was installed or moved recently, or someone worked on the outlet or circuit, treat that as the likely cause.
  4. If F9 or F9 E0 keeps coming back, Whirlpool's advice is to disconnect power and have a qualified electrician verify the electrical supply. Don't keep resetting it or using the oven while it's showing.
  5. Before the visit, note your model number (on the label inside the oven door frame or drawer area) and whether the code is F9 or F9 E0.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • Entering the control's diagnostics mode (CANCEL, CANCEL, START within 5 seconds on many Whirlpool electric ranges) to confirm the stored code, then clearing it after the repair.
  • With the power off and test equipment connected, verifying the house supply provides 240 VAC between L1 and L2 and 120 VAC from each of L1 and L2 to neutral. If not, the house wiring needs an electrician.
  • If the supply measures correctly, checking that the supply wires are connected to the correct terminals at the range terminal block (or the wall oven's junction box) and that the connections are tight and not burnt.
  • On wall ovens, confirming L2 and neutral aren't swapped at the hard-wire connection.
  • Restoring power, verifying normal operation, and checking diagnostics again for any remaining codes.
