Beko Dishwasher E4 Error Code: Overflow (Water Leaking Into the Base)
What the code means
The error code table in Beko's DTC36610W and DTC36810W instruction manuals lists E4 with the meaning "Overflow" and the possible cause "Some element of dishwasher leaks." The same table carries a warning: if overflow occurs, turn off the main water supply before calling a service, and if there is water in the base pan because of an overfill or small leak, the water should be removed before restarting the dishwasher. Beko's own Romanian manual for the DTC36610W gives the same table (E4 Revarsare, overflow). The other codes in that table are E1 (longer inlet time: tap not open, restricted intake or low water pressure), E3 (not reaching the required temperature, a heating element problem), E9 (a button held down for more than 30 seconds, often water on the panel) and Ed (lost communication between the main board and the display board). Beko's larger built-in and freestanding dishwashers use a different code set, where the overflow warning is E01 (see the Beko E01 page). Beko's manuals don't say how the leak is sensed or describe internal repairs, so anything beyond drying the base and checking connections is a job for service.
Likely causes
- A small leak from a hose or connection inside the dishwasher, which Beko's table gives as the cause ("some element of dishwasher leaks")
- An overfill that has left water in the base pan, which Beko says must be removed before the dishwasher will run again
- A loose or leaking inlet hose connection at the tap or at the back of the machine (a common place for water to start, though Beko's table doesn't name it)
- Too many suds from the wrong detergent; Beko's troubleshooting chart says to use only special dishwasher detergent to avoid suds
- A worn internal part or seal that keeps leaking, which needs a technician to find
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.
- Turn off the water supply to the dishwasher (the tap or valve feeding it) and unplug the machine, as Beko's warning says to do before calling for service.
- Remove the water from the base pan before restarting. On a small countertop unit, have towels ready and carefully tip the unplugged, empty machine back so water in the base can run out, then stand it level again and let it dry.
- Check the inlet hose at both ends: make sure the connection at the tap and at the dishwasher is tight and not dripping, and that the hose isn't split or kinked.
- If you see suds in the tub, Beko's chart says to open the dishwasher and let them evaporate, add about 1 gallon (4 litres) of cold water, close it and start a wash cycle to pump the water out, repeating if needed. Use only dishwasher detergent, and wipe up any spilled rinse aid.
- Turn the water back on, plug in and run a short program while watching under and around the machine for drips.
- If E4 comes back, turn the water off again and contact Beko service rather than running it repeatedly.
๐ When to call a pro
- E4 returns after you've dried the base and checked the hose connections: Beko says to turn off the main water supply and call a service.
- You can see water dripping from under the machine during a cycle, or the base fills up again quickly, which points to an internal leak.
- The display shows Ed (main board and display board communication) or E3 (not heating) instead; those are separate faults in Beko's table.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Dishwasher water inlet hose
For a split, kinked or dripping supply hose. Match the fitting to your Beko compact model and tap adapter.
Search eBay โDishwasher detergent
Use only proper automatic dishwasher detergent; Beko's chart blames the wrong detergent for suds.
Search eBay โDishwasher float switch
Only if a technician confirms the overflow sensing has failed. Match your exact Beko model number.
