Beko Dishwasher P1 Error: Flashing Overflow Warning (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-26 ยท Based on 4 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Beko dishwashers without a numeric display show faults by flashing the programme indicators labelled P1, P2 and so on. Beko Australia's help centre explains that if the machine takes in too much water or there is a leak at any of the components, it detects this and flashes the P1 icon (the E01 error) on the programme indicator screen, and that as long as the overflowing continues the safety algorithm stays active and tries to pump the water out. Beko's BDFN15330 and BDFS16030 user manuals list the same thing in their error table as "E01 Warning, P1 blinks, power LED flashes" with the cause "chassis water filling fault", meaning water in the base pan: the error algorithm activates and the cycle ends, and if you keep seeing it you should cut the electricity, close the water valve and contact the authorised service. The BDIN16421 quick guide labels that indicator "Programme Indicators / Water Overflow Warning (P1 Flashes)". The same manuals use the P lights for other codes too: P2 blinking with the water outage icon is E02 (water supply or blocked inlet filter), P2 and P6 flashing is E06 (temperature sensor), and P2 with F1 and F2 flashing is E07 (flowmeter), and Beko notes the codes can change depending on the model. P1 also has an innocent meaning: in the water hardness setting menu, P1 is simply hardness position 1. For the full overflow explanation on models that show the number, see our Beko E01 page.

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. First make sure it really is the fault: a flashing P1 during a cycle (on some models with the power light flashing too) is the overflow warning, while a steady P1 while you're adjusting water hardness is just hardness level 1.
  2. Let the drain pump run, then remove and clean the filters in the bottom of the tub, as Beko advises before anything else.
  3. Check the end of the drain hose and its connection to the drain, and clear the trap under the sink of any blockage. Straighten any kink in the hose.
  4. Turn the dishwasher off at the wall, pull it out of the cavity, and tilt it backwards no more than 45 degrees so trapped water can run out of the base (have towels ready). Put it back, restore power and see if it runs normally.
  5. If you used washing-up liquid or too much detergent, run a rinse with the door shut once the base is dry, and use only dishwasher detergent.
  6. If P1 comes straight back, look for drips around the hoses and under the door with the kick plate off. If you can't find and fix an obvious loose hose, stop and call service.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • P1 keeps flashing after cleaning the filters and draining the base: Beko says to cut the electricity, close the water valve and contact the authorised service.
  • Water keeps filling the base even with the machine off: the inlet valve may not be shutting off; turn the water tap off until it's repaired.
  • You find a leak from an internal part such as the pump, heater or sump seal.
  • The machine is under warranty: contact Beko service rather than opening it up.
