Hotpoint Dishwasher F05 Error Code: Pressure Switch Fault (Fill Not Confirmed)
What the code means
Hotpoint UK's consumer dishwasher error-code guides list F01 to F04 and F06 to F15 but skip F05, so the detail comes from the Indesit Company service manual (UK English) for Hotpoint dishwashers such as the FDYF11011K. Its detailed fault table names F05 "PRESSURE SWITCH non compliant" and explains that the pressure switch has not indicated completion of fill, even though the turbine has filled the appliance with water correctly. In plain terms, the dishwasher has two ways of checking the fill: a turbine that counts the water coming in, and a pressure switch that senses the water level in the sump through a small tube and air trap. When the turbine says the fill is done but the pressure switch never agrees, the board stops with F05. That's different from F06 (water fill timeout, where not enough water comes in at all) and F07 (water turbine damaged, where the turbine gives no signal even though water has come in), which Hotpoint lists for contrast. The same manual's basic fault chart marks F05 as "Not applicable to this model" for the FDYF11011K, which tells you the code is only used on models fitted with this pressure switch check.
Likely causes
- A faulty pressure switch (Indesit Company service manual)
- A damaged, split or disconnected pressure switch tube (service manual)
- Water sitting in the air trap, so the switch can't read the level properly (service manual)
- A damaged air trap (service manual)
- Loose connectors or damaged wiring between the pressure switch and the main board (general appliance repair practice)
Safe DIY checks
Switch the dishwasher off at the wall and unplug it before removing any panel or moving it out of the cabinet. The pressure switch sits near mains-voltage parts and the main board, so testing it and its wiring is a job for a qualified engineer. Have a towel ready, since water can be left in the sump and hoses.
- Note the code and when it appeared. If your dishwasher shows codes with LEDs rather than a digit display, check your instruction booklet for the matching light pattern.
- Switch the dishwasher off, unplug it or switch it off at the wall for a couple of minutes, then switch back on and try a short program. If F05 doesn't come back, it may have been a one-off.
- Make sure the water tap is fully on and the inlet hose isn't kinked, so the fill itself is normal. If the machine is not filling at all, you're more likely to see F06 instead.
- Clean the filter in the bottom of the tub and check that the dishwasher drains properly, since standing water in the sump can upset level readings.
- If F05 comes back, stop using the dishwasher and book an engineer (Hotpoint UK 0344 822 4224). Hotpoint doesn't publish a user fix for this code.
- Have your model and service number ready (usually on a sticker on the edge of the door).
๐ When to call a pro
- F05 returns after a power reset: book an engineer.
- The engineer checks the pressure switch tube for splits, kinks or a loose fitting, checks the air trap for water or damage, and tests the pressure switch and its wiring, following the Indesit Company service manual's list of causes.
- A faulty pressure switch, damaged tube or damaged air trap gets replaced with the exact part for your model.
- You see water on the floor, a burning smell or tripping electrics: switch the dishwasher off at the wall and don't use it until it's been checked.
- The dishwasher is still under warranty or extended cover: use Hotpoint service first.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
