KitchenAid Oven Error Code 30 (PF id=30): Power Failure Message, Not a Fault (Meaning, What to Do)
What the code means
KitchenAid's Error Codes for Cooking Appliances chart lists "PF or PF id=27 or PF id=30" as one entry: there has been a power failure, press the cancel pad to clear the display, and on some models reset the time of day clock. A flashing time of day means the same thing. The KitchenAid built-in electric convection oven Use & Care Guide (models KEMC307, KEMC308, KEMC377, KEMC378, YKEMC307, YKEMC308, part 4456573) explains when it shows: when power is first supplied, every segment of the display lights for 5 seconds and then "PF id = 27" or "PF id = 30" appears. Any other time it appears, a power failure occurred. Press LOWER OVEN CANCEL (on other models UPPER OVEN CANCEL or CANCEL OFF) and reset the clock if needed. The 27 or 30 is a suffix the control prints, not a separate fault number, so searching "error code 30" lands here. The same guide gives different advice for a code that is a letter followed by a number (for example F2 or F5 E1): clear it, and if it comes back, call for service.
Likely causes
- A household power outage, even a brief flicker, while the oven was plugged in or hardwired
- The oven's circuit breaker was switched off and back on, or a fuse was replaced
- Power being supplied to the oven for the first time after installation (the control shows PF id=27 or PF id=30 at first power-up)
- Less often: a loose connection or tripping breaker on the oven's circuit that keeps interrupting power, so the message returns with no outage you noticed
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.
- Press the Cancel pad for the oven that shows the message (LOWER OVEN CANCEL, UPPER OVEN CANCEL or CANCEL OFF, depending on the model). The message should clear.
- Reset the time of day if the clock is blank or flashing. Your Use & Care Guide's Clock section has the exact keys; on the KEMC models it's CLOCK SET/START.
- Restart anything that was cooking or self-cleaning when the power dropped. Check food safety for anything that sat in a cooling oven.
- Check whether other things in the house also lost power (microwave clock, other displays). If they did, it was a household outage and you're done.
- If the message comes back with no outage, check the oven's breaker at the panel. A breaker that feels loose, is warm, or keeps tripping is a job for an electrician.
- If you see a code that is a letter and a number (F1, F2, F3 E0, F5 E1 and so on) instead of PF, that is a real fault code. Clear it and look up that code; KitchenAid says to call for service if it reappears.
🛠 When to call a pro
- PF id=30 keeps returning even though the power in the house hasn't gone out.
- The oven's breaker trips, feels hot, or the oven loses power while cooking. Oven circuits are 240 volts, so have a licensed electrician check the breaker and wiring.
- The display shows other codes or behaves oddly after the PF message is cleared.
- The oven is still under warranty. KitchenAid's Use & Care Guide lists 1-800-422-1230 for service in the U.S.
