Beko Washing Machine Error Code E1 (E01): Water Temperature Sensor (NTC) Fault

What the code means

Beko doesn't publish one error list for every washer it makes, and the code tables in recent Beko user manuals don't list E1 at all, so check your own manual first. On Beko's digital-display washing machines, though, repair sources agree on what E1 means. UK Whitegoods' Beko WMA fault table, which it says is written for repairers from information Beko gave it, lists E1 as NTC error detected: check the wiring and check the thermistor, which normally reads about 4,700 ohms at 25 °C. The repair site How-To-Repair's guide for the WTK range (WTK72011, WTK74011, WTK82011, WTK84011, WTK94121 and WTK10412 series) says E1 means the NTC sensor has failed, either short circuit or open circuit, and gives its specification as 4,773 to 4,837 ohms at 25 °C. The NTC is a thermistor whose resistance falls as the water warms; the board uses it to switch the heater off once the water reaches the set temperature, which is why a bad reading shows up as cold washes or very long programmes. The parts retailer eSpares also lists Beko E01/E1 as a faulty NTC temperature sensor. One consumer guide lists E01 as a door lock fault on some models; we couldn't find that in a Beko source, but it's one more reason to check your model's manual.

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. Switch the machine off at the wall for a minute, then turn it back on and try a short programme. A one-off glitch can clear this way.
  2. Note what the machine was doing when E1 appeared: whether the water stayed cold and how far into the programme it stopped. That helps whoever repairs it.
  3. Check your user manual's error table for your exact model, since Beko's code lists differ between platforms.
  4. If you're comfortable working on appliances: unplug the machine, remove the back panel (eSpares uses a Torx T20 screwdriver) and find the NTC sensor plugged into the heating element under the drum. Check its plug is pushed fully home.
  5. With the plug off, measure the sensor with a multimeter. At room temperature (about 25 °C) a good Beko NTC reads close to 4,700 to 4,800 ohms; open circuit or near zero means the sensor has failed.
  6. If the sensor is bad, replace it with the part for your exact model number. eSpares suggests a little washing-up liquid around the rubber opening to ease the new sensor into the element.
  7. Refit the back panel before plugging the machine back in, then run a warm programme to confirm the code has cleared.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • The sensor reads correctly at its own plug but E1 still returns: a technician checks the wiring and the reading at the main board connector (KN2, the two green wires on pins 3 and 4 on WTK models per How-To-Repair). A good reading at the board points to the control board; a bad reading there with a good sensor points to the wiring.
  • You're not comfortable removing panels or testing with a meter: book Beko service with your model number.
  • The machine trips the electrics or smells of burning: unplug it and leave it off until it's inspected.

Parts that commonly fix it

Always match the part number to your exact model.

⚙

Washing machine NTC temperature sensor

The usual fix for E1. Beko sensors read about 4,700 ohms at 25 °C; order by your exact model number.
