Beko Washing Machine Error Code E6 (E06): Motor Fault
What the code means
Beko doesn't publish one error list for every washer it makes, so check your own manual's table first. On Beko's digital-display washing machines, UK Whitegoods' Beko WMA fault table, which it says is written for repairers from information Beko gave it, lists E6 as Motor fault detected. It describes the typical complaints as the machine moving a couple of times and then ending the programme, jumping to spin during a wash, or leaving the programme unfinished, and says to check the motor, the wiring, the motor triac (the switching part on the control board that powers the motor) and the control board. The parts retailer eSpares also says E6/E06 points to a problem with the motor: sometimes a temporary glitch that a reset clears, but most often a motor that needs replacing. On Beko's brushed motors, worn carbon brushes are a common reason the motor stops turning: the repair shop DP Domestic Spares found one brush worn away and the other stuck in its holder on a Beko WME7267W that wouldn't spin, and says E6 or E11 is the code those machines normally show for this. The same UK Whitegoods table lists E11 as a motor error with the same checks, so treat E6 and E11 as close cousins.
Likely causes
- Worn or stuck motor carbon brushes, so the motor no longer gets a circuit (DP Domestic Spares)
- A failed drive motor (eSpares: the most likely fix is a new motor; UK Whitegoods: check motor)
- Loose or damaged wiring between the motor and the control board (UK Whitegoods: check wiring)
- A failed motor triac or motor drive circuit on the main control board (UK Whitegoods: check motor triac, check PCB)
- A one-off electronic glitch, which a power reset can clear (eSpares)
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.
- Switch the machine off at the wall for a few minutes, then turn it back on and try a short programme. eSpares notes E6 is sometimes just a temporary glitch.
- If the drum is packed tight, take some items out and retry. A heavy, overloaded drum makes the motor work harder.
- With the machine unplugged, open the door and turn the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly; if it grinds or won't move, something may be caught between the drum and the tub, or the drum bearings need checking.
- Note what happened before E6 appeared: whether the drum turned at all, rocked briefly, or jumped to spin. That helps whoever repairs it tell a motor fault from a board fault.
- If you're comfortable working on appliances: unplug the machine and remove the back panel (eSpares uses a Torx T20 screwdriver for the screws). Check the drive belt is on both pulleys and the motor's plug is pushed fully home.
- On brushed motors, the carbon brushes sit at the end of the motor. DP Domestic Spares removed the motor (four T40 Torx bolts on the WME7267W) to reach them; if one is worn down or stuck in its holder, replace both brushes as a pair.
- If the brushes are fine and the motor is the problem, eSpares has a step-by-step motor swap: belt off, unplug the motor connector and wiring loom, two Torx T30 screws, then fit the new motor and refit the belt ribbed side in. Order the motor by your exact model number.
๐ When to call a pro
- The brushes, belt and plug are fine and E6 still returns: a technician tests the motor windings and the wiring to the board, then the board's motor triac. A good motor with a bad drive signal points to the control board.
- You're not comfortable removing the motor or testing with a meter: book Beko service with your model number.
- The machine trips the electrics, smells of burning, or the motor hums without turning: unplug it and leave it off until it's inspected.
