Beko Washing Machine Error Code E3 (E03): Water Not Draining, or Heater Stuck On
What the code means
Beko doesn't publish one error list for all its washers, and E3 means different things on different platforms. Beko's user manual for the BMM5DFO5741W washer-dryer lists E03 as Abnormal water drainage: clean the pump filter and check whether the drain hose is bent, twisted or blocked, and if the code stays after that, contact the service centre. The same manual's troubleshooting table says a machine that doesn't drain, drains slowly or shows E03 can have a blocked pump filter, a kinked or twisted drain hose, a blocked or frozen drain hose, or a drain hose whose top is fitted too high (it must sit between 65 and 100 cm from the floor). On older Beko washing machines the code is a heater fault. UK Whitegoods' Beko WMA fault table, written for repairers, lists E3 as Constant heat (check wiring and the control board relay for the heater), and the repair site How-To-Repair says WTK-range E3/E03 means the heater is stuck on, so the water keeps heating and clothes can come out hot. If your clothes come out hot or the machine runs hot with E3, it's the heater version; if water is left in the drum, it's the drain version.
Likely causes
- A blocked pump filter (Beko BMM5DFO5741W manual, drain version of E03)
- A drain hose that is kinked, twisted, blocked or frozen (Beko manual)
- A drain hose fitted too high; Beko's manual says the top must be between 65 and 100 cm from the floor
- On older models (WMA/WTK range): the heater being switched on constantly, usually a failed heater relay on the control board or a wiring fault (UK Whitegoods, How-To-Repair)
- On older models: a shorted heater circuit or a faulty water level (pressure) sensor that lets the heater run, per How-To-Repair's WTK E3 test sequence
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.
- Turn the machine off and note whether there's water left in the drum (drain version) or the clothes and door glass are hot (heater version).
- Drain version: unplug the machine, put towels and a shallow tray down, and clean the pump filter behind the small flap at the bottom front, as your manual describes. Let hot water cool first.
- Check the drain hose behind the machine for kinks, twists, a blockage or ice, and make sure its top is between 65 and 100 cm from the floor.
- Empty pockets before washing; Beko warns that coins and small items left in pockets can block the pump or drain hose.
- Restart a rinse and spin program. If E03 comes back with a clean filter and a clear hose, contact Beko service, as the manual says.
- Heater version (older models, hot clothes or constant heating): unplug the machine and leave it off. Don't keep running it, because a heater that won't switch off is a fault for a technician.
๐ When to call a pro
- E03 returns after you've cleaned the pump filter and cleared the drain hose: the drain pump or its wiring may need testing. Book Beko service with your model number.
- Older machine showing E3 with hot clothes or constant heating: a technician checks the heater wiring and the control board's heater relay first (UK Whitegoods), then the element (about 26 ohms on WTK models per How-To-Repair) and the water level sensor.
- The machine smells of burning, trips the electrics or the door glass is too hot to touch: unplug it and leave it off until it's inspected.
