Fisher & Paykel Dishwasher Error Code U6: Spray Arm Loose or Water Pressure Too Low (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)
What the code means
Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer user guides list U6 as "The spray arm has loosened or come off its mounting, or water pressure is too low." When a fault happens the DishDrawer beeps continuously and shows the code on the display, or as a pattern of lit wash program indicators on Designer and integrated models with no display. U codes (U1 no water, U4 fault in the other drawer, U6 spray arm or water pressure) are user-fixable problems, while E codes point to a component fault that needs service. On newer DishDrawer models the same problem is shown as fault A6, and those guides add a third cause: a combination of low water pressure and too much foam.
Likely causes
- The spray arm has worked loose or come off its mounting in the bottom of the drawer, for example after cleaning the filter or when a tall item knocked it.
- Water pressure to the dishwasher is too low, so the drawer can't fill and spray properly. Fisher & Paykel's fix for this is a '4 litre' valve on the water supply.
- Low water pressure combined with excess foam, usually from the wrong detergent, which newer DishDrawer guides list under the matching A6 code.
- The water supply tap to the dishwasher only partly open, which also lowers the pressure reaching the drawer (U1 is the code when no water arrives at all).
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the DishDrawer or switch it off at the circuit breaker before reaching into the bottom of the drawer beyond simply refitting the spray arm, and let hot water and dishes cool first. If the drawer is full of water, let the dishwasher drain it rather than bailing it out near the electronics. Don't add washing-up liquid or other non-dishwasher soap, which causes excess foam.
- Press the power button briefly to stop the beeping and note down the code.
- Open the drawer and check the spray arm. If it has loosened or come off its mounting, refit it following the 'User maintenance instructions' in your user guide, and check that it's firmly seated and turns freely by hand.
- Make sure nothing in the rack hangs down far enough to hit or lift the spray arm.
- Close the drawer and press the power button to resume the wash program.
- If the spray arm was already in place, the problem is water pressure. Check that the water supply tap is fully open and the inlet hose isn't kinked.
- Use dishwasher detergent only, and the right amount. Fisher & Paykel says to check you're using the right detergent if foam is detected, since foam plus low pressure can trigger the same fault on newer models.
๐ When to call a pro
- The spray arm is fitted correctly and U6 keeps coming back. Fisher & Paykel says water pressure is too low and you may need a '4 litre' valve installed on the water supply, which is a job for a plumber or an authorized service technician.
- The fault code won't clear or the dishwasher won't resume normal operation. Fisher & Paykel says to disconnect the dishwasher from power, turn off its water supply and contact Customer Care with the fault code.
- The spray arm or its mounting is damaged and won't stay seated. A replacement spray arm for your DishDrawer model is needed.
- The drawer shows an E or F code instead. Those point to a component fault such as the motor, heater or controller and need service.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
DishDrawer spray arm
Only if yours is cracked or won't stay on its mounting; match your DishDrawer model number (DD24, DD60 and so on).
Search eBay โDishwasher supply line
Replace a kinked or restricted supply hose that's cutting water pressure to the drawer.
Search eBay โDishwasher detergent
Proper automatic-dishwasher detergent avoids the excess foam that can trigger the same fault on newer models.
