Fisher & Paykel Dishwasher F2 / E2 Error Code: Motor Not Turning, DishDrawer Motor Fault (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)
What the code means
Fisher & Paykel's DishDrawer service manual 599082 (DS603 and DD603 series) lists F2 as "The motor has not been sensed rotating," shown as the Delicate light on integrated models without a display. The later service manual 590409A (DD607 and DD247 series) calls the same fault E2, "The controller has not sensed the motor rotating," and the DishDrawer user guide 590199D lists E2 simply as "Motor fault." The DishDrawer's wash motor sits in the base of each drawer: a rotor spins inside a stator, and a hall sensor clipped to the stator tells the controller how fast it's turning. If the controller drives the motor but the hall sensor reports no rotation, it stops and shows F2 or E2. On models that log sub codes, 590409A splits E2 into 01 motor not rotating, 02 motor drawing too much current, and 03 motor not drawing enough current. F codes are faults that usually need a qualified service person, unlike U and A codes you can often fix yourself. This page covers DishDrawer models; Fisher & Paykel's full-size dishwasher guides don't list an F2 meaning, so check with Customer Care if you see it on a full-size model.
Likely causes
- A foreign object, such as a piece of glass, a bone, a fruit pit or a label, jamming the motor rotor under the filter plate.
- A failed motor rotor, or on the E2 sub code 03, a rotor that isn't installed correctly.
- The hall sensor (rotor position sensor) unclipped from the stator, unplugged, or failed.
- Wiring or harness connections at the motor or controller damaged by water, corrosion or arcing.
- An open circuit or shorted motor stator winding.
- A failed electronic controller or PCB mains filter, which the service manuals list after the motor parts are ruled out.
Safe DIY checks
Switch the dishwasher off at the wall before removing the filter plate or reaching into the drawer base, and let it cool if it was just running. Watch for broken glass or sharp objects. Removing the rotor, testing the stator and hall sensor, and replacing the controller mean working near mains wiring, so leave those steps to a qualified technician.
- Press the power button to stop the beeping, then press it again to turn the drawer off. Wait a few seconds and turn it back on, which is how Fisher & Paykel's DishDrawer guides say to clear an F fault. If the code is gone, run a short cycle and watch for it to return.
- Turn the dishwasher off at the wall before reaching into the drawer base.
- Lift out the base rack, twist out the drain filter and remove the filter plate as shown in your user guide's maintenance section, then clear any glass, bones, seeds or labels you find. Take care, since sharp fragments are a common cause of a jammed rotor.
- Check the spray arm is seated firmly and turns freely, then refit the filter plate, drain filter and spray arm. The DishDrawer must never run without them in place.
- Turn the power back on and run a rinse or short cycle. If F2 or E2 comes back, note the code. Fisher & Paykel's 590199D guide says pressing the button shown there makes another number briefly appear; note that too, since it helps Customer Care pin down the fault. Then contact Fisher & Paykel Customer Care or book a service technician.
- On a double DishDrawer, Fisher & Paykel says a fault in one drawer usually still lets you use the other drawer while you wait for service.
๐ When to call a pro
- Removing the motor rotor to check that it turns freely by hand and to clear obstructions in the rotor housing, then replacing the rotor if needed (590409A, E2 sub code 01).
- Checking that the hall sensor is clipped firmly into the stator housing and plugged into the controller, and replacing the hall sensor if it's faulty (599082 F2 chart).
- Inspecting the motor and controller harness connections for water damage, corrosion or arcing and replacing a damaged harness.
- Measuring the stator windings at the controller harness: Fisher & Paykel's spec is about 8 ohms per winding and 16 ohms phase to phase. A winding outside that range means replacing the stator.
- Replacing the electronic controller if the rotor, hall sensor, harness and stator all check out.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Dishwasher filter
Only if the drain filter or filter plate is cracked or damaged. Match it to your DishDrawer model number.
Search eBay โDigital multimeter
For a technician or experienced DIYer checking the stator windings (about 8 ohms each, 16 ohms phase to phase).
Search eBay โDishwasher control board
Only if a technician has ruled out the rotor, hall sensor, harness and stator. Match the part to your model number.
