Gree Mini Split Error Code H6: Indoor Fan Motor Not Running or No Feedback (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-24 ยท Based on 3 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Gree's service manuals list H6 as an indoor unit hardware fault: "Internal motor (fan motor) do not operate" in the 27 SEER Jasmine manual, "Malfunction of Blocked Protection of IDU Fan Motor" in its troubleshooting section, "Feedback of without IDU motor" on Multi21+ multi-zone heads, and "No feedback of indoor fan motor" on Free Match units. The indoor fan is a DC motor (Gree calls it a PG motor) that reports its speed back to the indoor main board. If the board drives the motor but doesn't see it turning, it sets H6. According to the Jasmine malfunction table, the indoor fan, outdoor fan, compressor and electric heater all stop, and the louver stops where it is. On Free Match units the indicator lamp blinks 11 times. On Multi21+ heads you can view the code by pressing the light button 6 times within 3 seconds.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

The indoor board feeds the DC fan motor around 300 volts DC, and the voltage checks are made with the unit powered. Keep power off for any hands-on checks, and leave live measurements and motor or board replacement to a qualified HVAC technician.

  1. Switch the unit off at the breaker or disconnect before touching anything inside the indoor unit.
  2. With the power off, open the front panel and look at the long fan wheel behind the louvers. Gree's first check is whether it turns smoothly by hand; if it's stuck, rubbing, or packed with dust, that alone can cause H6.
  3. If the wheel is heavily caked with dust or mold, have it cleaned properly (a mini split coil and blower cleaning) rather than forcing it.
  4. Restore power and try the unit again. If H6 comes back right away and the fan wheel turns freely, the next checks are the motor plug and voltages on the indoor board, which are a job for a technician.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • With power off, turn the fan wheel by hand and adjust or reseat the motor and wheel assembly so the rotor runs smoothly (Jasmine and Free Match flowcharts).
  • With power off, check the fan motor connector on the indoor main board, both the feedback terminal and the control terminal, and reseat it if it's loose.
  • Jasmine flowchart: power up and restart, then measure at the motor interface. Terminals 1 to 2 should read 280 to 310 VDC and terminals 2 to 3 should read 15 VDC, and there should be a voltage between terminals 2 and 4. If any of these is missing, the main board is faulty; replace it with one of the same model.
  • Free Match flowchart: within 1 minute after the louvers open, measure the output on the PG motor's control terminal. If it's over 50 V, replace the fan motor; if not, the main board is faulty.
  • If the board's outputs are all correct and the motor still doesn't run or report speed, replace the indoor fan motor with one of the same model.

Parts that commonly fix it

Always match the part number to your exact model.

โš™

Indoor fan motor (DC blower motor)

Gree's flowchart replaces the motor when the board's outputs check out. It must match your indoor unit's exact model.
