Hisense Dishwasher E1 Error Code: Taking Too Long to Fill, or Door Open (Depends on Model)

Reviewed 2026-10-26 · Based on 5 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Hisense uses two different E1 meanings across its dishwasher ranges, so the code table in your own manual is the final word. In the Hisense HSCE14FS freestanding dishwasher manual, E1 is listed as "Longer inlet time" with the possible causes "Faucets are not opened, or water intake is restricted, or water pressure is too low." The HV543D10 and HV523E15UK manuals use the same "longer inlet time" meaning. On those models E3 means the water didn't reach the required temperature and E4 means overflow. The Hisense HS520E40WUK and HV60340UK manuals use a different table: there E1 is "Door open" (the door was opened while the dishwasher was operating), E2 is the water inlet fault, E3 water drainage, E4 temperature sensor, E5 overflow or leakage, E6 water leakage and E7 the heating element. A quick way to tell which table your machine uses: if your manual lists E2 as a water inlet fault, your E1 is the door code.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. Look up E1 in the error code table of your dishwasher's manual (search your model number on the Hisense site or a manual site) so you know which meaning applies.
  2. For a fill (inlet time) E1: make sure the water tap feeding the dishwasher is fully open. If other work was done on the plumbing recently, check the tap wasn't left closed.
  3. Pull the dishwasher out only as far as you need to, and check the inlet hose isn't kinked, crushed or trapped behind the machine.
  4. Run the kitchen tap to check you have normal water pressure. If the whole house has low pressure, the dishwasher may keep showing E1 until that's fixed.
  5. With the dishwasher unplugged and the water tap turned off, disconnect the inlet hose and look inside both ends for grit or a clogged filter screen (where your model has one). Rinse it out, reconnect the hose tightly and turn the water back on, checking for drips.
  6. For a door-open E1: close the door firmly until it latches, check nothing (a rack, a utensil, a tall plate) is stopping it shutting, then restart the programme.
  7. Switch the dishwasher off at the power button for a minute, then run a short programme to see if E1 clears.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • The water supply, hose and pressure are fine but E1 (inlet time) keeps coming back: the inlet valve or the flow sensor likely needs testing.
  • The door closes properly but the dishwasher still shows a door-open E1: the door switch or latch may be faulty.
  • There's water on the floor or in the base of the machine. Hisense says to turn off the main water supply before calling for service if there's overflow.
  • The dishwasher is under warranty: contact Hisense customer service rather than taking it apart.
