Samsung Washer Error Code 4C: Water Supply / Not Filling (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-21 ยท Based on 5 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Samsung support lists 4C, 1 4C, nF and 4E together as a 'Not filling' error: water is not entering the washer correctly. The most common cause is a blocked, kinked or closed water supply. Samsung's European pages specify the supply must be 0.5โ€“8 bar (about 7โ€“116 psi) and deliver at least 4 litres per minute. Samsung's Smart Install self-diagnostic also reports 4C when the bleach, cold or hot water valve check fails to bring in water.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. Open both the hot and cold supply valves fully, and leave them open while the washer runs.
  2. Pull the washer forward and check both inlet hoses for kinks, bends or damage. Confirm hot goes to hot and cold goes to cold, and that the hot hose is connected.
  3. Unplug the washer (or flip its breaker) for 1 minute, then restore power and try a cycle. Sometimes this clears a glitch.
  4. Clean the inlet filters: turn the water valves OFF, put a towel down, unscrew the hoses from the back of the washer, gently pull out the mesh filters (pliers help), rinse them clean, put them back, reconnect, open the valves and check for leaks. Samsung suggests doing this at least twice a year.
  5. Front loaders: take out the detergent dispenser drawer, clear any blockage and put it back.
  6. Check the drain hose: it should not be kinked, and on US models it should go 6โ€“8 inches into the standpipe. Don't remove the screw that holds the drain hose against the back of the washer.
  7. Check the water flow at the tap: weak flow anywhere in the house points to a plumbing/supply problem, not the washer.
  8. If 4C keeps coming back after all of these, stop and arrange service.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • The code keeps coming back even though the water supply, hoses and filters are fine. Next you'd need live voltage checks on the inlet valve (120 VAC). Leave that to a technician if you aren't trained to test live circuits.
  • The water inlet valve or the control board needs replacing and you aren't comfortable removing panels and handling wiring.
  • A supply pipe is frozen or burst, or water pressure is low throughout the home. Call a plumber.
  • The drain hose holder screw on the back is missing, which Samsung says needs service.
  • The washer is under warranty. Request service from Samsung instead of opening it up yourself.

Parts that commonly fix it

Always match the part number to your exact model.

โš™

Water inlet valve (exact OEM part number for your model)

Match your washer's model number; part numbers vary by model (e.g. DC62-00214K fits some front loaders such as WF45R6100AW/WF45T6000AW). Check the fit before ordering.

Washer inlet (fill) hoses, standard pair

Replace any that are kinked, cracked or bulging. Samsung advises against Flood Safe hoses.

Main control board

Only as a last resort, after the supply, filters and inlet valve check out. Usually a job for a pro.
