Electrolux Washer E35 Error Code: Water Overfill (Water Level Too High)

What the code means

Electrolux's support article for front-loading washers says Error Code E35 indicates the washer's pressure sensor is indicating water overfill, and that the usual symptom is water running continuously. Electrolux's service manual for its front-loaders (EWM2100 electronics) defines E35 as "Water level too high": the electronic board measures a water level from the analog pressure switch higher than 300 mm for more than 15 seconds. The Electrolux washer tech data sheet lists 35 as "Pressure sensor indicates water overfill" and sends technicians to its Test 5, which starts by checking whether the water level is above 4.5 inches and whether water enters continuously. Electrolux also calls it a known installation issue, so a recently installed or moved washer should be checked by the installer. Electrolux's Danish support page adds that the sensor can read wrong without the tub actually being overfull, for example when too much detergent makes excess suds. E38 (air trap or pressure chamber clogged) is a related pressure-sensing code.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

โš  Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. If water is still running into the washer, turn off the hot and cold faucets behind it right away.
  2. Press Cancel. Electrolux says this clears E35 from the display; then press Start to resume the cycle.
  3. If it comes back, do a hard reset: unplug the power cord, plug it back in, wait until the cycle ends or the washer beeps, then restart the cycle.
  4. With the washer unplugged, check whether water still trickles in. If it does, the inlet valve is stuck open and needs replacing (Electrolux's test says to replace the water valve assembly in that case).
  5. Use the right amount of HE detergent. Overdosing makes extra suds, which Electrolux says can throw off the pressure sensor.
  6. If the washer was installed or moved in the last 30 days, Electrolux says to have the installer check the installation; after 30 days, contact Electrolux to schedule service.

๐Ÿ›  When to call a pro

  • Water keeps entering with the washer unplugged: the water inlet valve needs replacing.
  • The fill stops when unplugged but E35 returns: a technician should check the pressure sensor hose and air trap for clogs (Electrolux's manual says the hose can be disconnected and blown through), then the pressure sensor and its cable.
  • The pressure system and cable check out but the washer still fills after the door locks: Electrolux's flow chart points to replacing the main board.
  • You see burn marks on the control board or wiring.
  • The washer is new or under warranty; let the installer or Electrolux service handle it.
