LG Dishwasher LE Error Code: Wash Motor Error (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-23 · Based on 6 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

LG's US dishwasher error-code guide says the LE code may appear when the cleaning motor is not functioning normally, and that it requires inspection by a service technician. LG's East Africa and Nigeria help pages describe LE as a motor error that may point to the motor or to the wiring harness between the motor and the control board, and give a simple reset: power off, trip the breaker for 10 seconds, restore power and run another cycle. An LG service bulletin on LE error and motor noise lists the service causes as a locked impeller or blade in the wash pump, a locked or cracked wash-motor rotor, or a loose, cut or broken wiring connection. LE is different from nE, which LG uses when the impeller doesn't spin normally, often because a dish is touching it.

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.

  1. Press Power to turn the dishwasher off.
  2. Switch off the dishwasher's circuit breaker for 10 seconds, then turn it back on and run another cycle, as LG directs.
  3. Make sure no dishes, utensils or items hanging through the lower rack are touching the spray arm or sitting near the filter area, then try again.
  4. With the power off, take out the lower rack and the filter and look for broken glass, pits, bones or other debris in the sump that could jam the pump. LG's guide says to clean the filter every one or two weeks.
  5. If LE shows again after the reset, stop and request LG service. LG treats LE as a service repair.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • LE comes back after the 10-second breaker reset. LG says the unit then requires service.
  • You hear the dishwasher fill and click but the wash motor doesn't run, or it makes a grinding or humming noise.
  • Checking the wash motor windings, connectors and Hall sensor wiring means pulling the unit and working near live parts. Technician guides say the motor is driven by an inverter whose voltage most meters can't read accurately.
  • The dishwasher is still under warranty, so a technician visit may cost you nothing.

Parts that commonly fix it

Always match the part number to your exact model.

⚙

Digital multimeter

For a technician-style check of motor windings and harness continuity with the power off. Inverter motor voltage needs a capable meter.

LG dishwasher filter assembly (exact part for your model)

Only if the filter is cracked and letting debris reach the pump.
