LG Dishwasher IE (1E) Error Code: Not Filling With Water (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)
What the code means
LG calls IE a Water Inlet Error. While washing, the dishwasher fills, sprays and drains several times, and IE appears when the specified amount of water isn't supplied to the tub. LG's help article says the error means the water level is still too low (insufficient water) after 30 seconds to 10 minutes of filling. You may also hear the dishwasher chime while no water comes in. LG separates IE from E1, which is a different error.
Likely causes
- A water outage to the house, so no water reaches the dishwasher at all
- A water supply hose that is kinked, pinched, bent, torn, or pressed flat by something stored under the sink
- A closed water supply valve, often left shut by the installer after a new install or a move
- A clogged inlet filter, the small plastic screen where the supply hose connects
- Water pressure that is too low (LG's range is 20 to 80 psi)
- A faulty part such as the inlet valve, if the error persists with normal water flow, which LG says needs a technician
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.
- Turn on the kitchen and bathroom faucets. If no water comes out anywhere, the house supply is off and the dishwasher can't fill until it's restored.
- Open the cabinet under the sink and find the supply line going to the dishwasher. Move anything pressing on it and straighten any kinks or sharp bends. Replace the hose if it's torn.
- If the dishwasher was just installed or moved, turn the water supply valve for the dishwasher counterclockwise to open it fully. LG also says to check that the water pipe valve above it is open.
- Clean the inlet filter: unplug the dishwasher and turn off the water valve, unscrew the supply hose, remove the seal and plastic filter with small pliers, and clean the filter under running water with a soft brush. Refit the filter and seal so they sit correctly and are free of grit, then hand-tighten the hose. LG says not to use a tool to tighten it.
- Turn the water back on and check the connection for leaks, then plug the dishwasher back in.
- Make sure the home's water pressure is between 20 and 80 psi. Low pressure can stop the tub from filling in time.
- Start a cycle and listen for water coming in. If IE returns while your faucets have normal flow, request LG service.
๐ When to call a pro
- IE keeps coming back even though the valve is open, the hose is straight, the inlet filter is clean, and pressure is in range. LG says a professional inspection is required.
- The dishwasher was just installed and still won't fill after you open both valves. LG says to contact the technician who installed it.
- The supply line or its fitting leaks after you reconnect it.
- Your home's water pressure is below 20 psi, which is a plumbing problem rather than a dishwasher fault.
- You hear no fill sound at all with the valves open, which LG says can mean a faulty inlet valve that needs service.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Dishwasher supply line
Only if the supply hose is torn or crushed. Match the fitting size to your valve and dishwasher.
Search eBay โDishwasher inlet valve
Only after a technician or a test confirms the valve is faulty. Match the part to your LG model number.
Search eBay โDishwasher cleaner
Handy for a maintenance run once the dishwasher fills normally again.
