Samsung Oven C-24 Error Code: Oven Heating Up Too Fast, Usually a Blocked Vent (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

What the code means

Samsung's US range and wall oven error-code guide defines C-24 this way: the temperature sensor has detected that the oven's temperature is rising higher than the normal rate, and this is generally caused by the vent on the back of the cooktop being blocked or partly blocked. The oven pushes hot air out through that vent. When a pan, foil, a baking sheet or other object sits over it, heat builds up inside the cavity faster than the control expects, and it flags C-24. That makes C-24 different from its neighbors: C-21 means the oven actually got abnormally hot, and C-20 is an open or shorted oven sensor. In most cases C-24 is an airflow problem you can fix yourself, not a broken part. Codes and wording can vary by model and region, so check your own manual if your display doesn't match.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.

  1. Look at the vent on the back of the cooktop (on slide-in models it is usually at the rear, behind the burners). Move any pan, sheet or foil that is covering it.
  2. If you're mid-cook, clear the code by opening and closing the oven door a few times for about 3 seconds at a time. Samsung says this releases warm air and forces some out through the vent. Use oven mitts and stand back from the hot air.
  3. Or turn the oven off and leave the door open for about 1 minute to let it cool.
  4. Once the oven and cooktop are cool, wipe grease and crumbs out of the vent area with a damp cloth and mild soap. Never stuff foil or anything else into the vent.
  5. If C-24 or another code keeps coming back, turn the range off with its Power or Off button, then on again. If it still returns, turn the circuit breaker off, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on.
  6. Get in the habit of keeping the rear burner area clear of anything that overhangs the vent while the oven is running.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • C-24 returns after you've cleared the vent and reset the breaker. Samsung's guide says to request service at that point.
  • The code appears when the oven is cold or hasn't been used, even after a power reset.
  • The oven runs much hotter than the set temperature, keeps heating after you turn it off, or you smell burning plastic. Turn the breaker off and leave it off until it's checked.
  • The range is under warranty. Samsung's US warranty service goes through a Samsung authorized service center.
