Samsung Oven SE (5E, -SE-) Error Code: Shorted or Stuck Touch Key (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-22 · Based on 6 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Samsung's own support pages describe SE (5E) as a button or touch-key problem: a key was pressed for longer than 10 seconds, water got on a key, or the key itself is faulty. Samsung Ukraine adds that a damp cloth or spilled liquid lying on part of the touch panel can set it, and that the exact hold time depends on the model. Samsung's service manuals call -SE- a shorted key. The NX58H5650WS range service manual says to check that the membrane (keypad) wire harness is properly connected to the control board, then disconnect it and check the harness, membrane and board for short circuits. The NE58F9710WS slide-in range service manual gives the same order for its glass touch panel: unplug the keypad cable from the sub board (connector TE201), check for a short between connector pins on the board, check the keypad and cable for a short, and replace the touch control board and glass assembly if the problem continues. Newer Samsung ovens sold in the UK show a similar button problem as C-d0 instead, so the code depends on the model.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.

  1. Press OFF/CLEAR (or the Power button on newer models) to cancel, then turn the oven back on and see if SE clears.
  2. Look at the control panel for water, spills, or a towel touching it. Wipe it completely dry with a dry cloth.
  3. If the panel was wet, leave it to dry before trying again. Samsung suggests about 1 to 2 hours (Samsung Russia) or 2 to 3 hours (Samsung Ukraine).
  4. Gently clean any grease or debris from around the keys so nothing is holding a key down.
  5. Reset power: turn the range off at the circuit breaker (or unplug it), wait at least 30 seconds (Samsung Russia says 1 to 2 minutes), and turn it back on. This is Samsung US's reset for codes it doesn't list separately.
  6. If SE comes right back on a dry, clean panel, stop using the oven controls and request service. Samsung's fix at that point is checking the keypad, its cable and connector, and the control board.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • SE returns after the panel is dry and clean and power has been reset.
  • The display shows SE together with keys beeping or functions turning on by themselves.
  • Checking the keypad cable, connector and control board for shorts, which means removing the control panel or backguard with power disconnected.
  • The keypad or touch glass is cracked or damaged, or liquid got inside the control panel.
  • The range is still under warranty. Use Samsung's support center instead of opening the controls.
