Samsung Oven E-08 Error Code: Oven Heating Error (Not Heating Up)
What the code means
Samsung's US owner's manual for the FE-R500 range lists E-08 as 'Oven heating error' (the FE-N300 manual calls it 'Oven not heating error'), next to E-0A for oven over-heating and E-27/E-28 for an open or shorted oven sensor. The fix in those manuals is to press CLEAR/OFF and restart the oven, then disconnect all power for at least 30 seconds if the problem persists, and call for service if that doesn't solve it. Samsung's troubleshooting manual for the NE597R0ABSR range explains the trigger: the control beeps 10 times long and shows E-08 if the oven could not reach 100°F (38°C) within 10 minutes of operating. Its service checks are the oven sensor (about 1,080 ohms at room temperature), the resistance of the bake, broil and convection heaters, whether the door lock (DLB) and heater relays on the main board work, the harness between the main and sub boards, and the sensor connector on the main board. Samsung Switzerland says E08 shows when the preheat phase isn't finished and the oven registers a temperature drop in the cavity, for example from cold food put in too early. Samsung Russia adds low mains voltage (which slows preheating) and opening the door during preheating or cooking. So E-08 is often a heating element, relay or sensor problem on US ranges, but can be a usage or power-supply issue first. Codes vary by model, so check your own manual.
Likely causes
- Food put in the oven, or the door opened, before preheating finished, which drops the cavity temperature (Samsung Switzerland and Russia)
- Low supply voltage that slows heating, or the oven not wired on its own correctly sized circuit (Samsung Russia)
- A burned-out bake, broil or convection heating element
- A heater relay or door lock relay on the main control board not switching
- A faulty oven temperature sensor, or a damaged sensor harness or connector
- A loose or broken harness between the main and sub control boards
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.
- Press CLEAR/OFF (or OVEN OFF) and let the oven cool if it's warm.
- Turn the oven off at the circuit breaker or unplug it. Samsung's US manuals say at least 30 seconds; Samsung Russia suggests 2 to 3 minutes. Then restore power.
- Restart the oven with nothing inside and the door fully closed, and don't open the door until preheating finishes and the preheat indicator goes off. Put food in only after that.
- Look at the bake element on the oven floor and the broil element at the top (with the oven cool and power off). A visible break, blister or burned spot means the element has failed.
- If the oven was recently installed or moved, have an electrician confirm it's on its own correctly rated circuit and getting normal voltage.
- If E-08 returns after a power reset and a clean, door-closed preheat, stop and request service. Write down your full model number first.
🛠 When to call a pro
- E-08 comes back after a power reset and an empty, door-closed preheat.
- One element never glows or the oven stays cold.
- Testing element resistance, the oven sensor (about 1,080 ohms at room temperature per Samsung's service manual) or the board relays, which means removing panels with power disconnected.
- Checking supply voltage or the circuit, which is a job for an electrician.
- The oven is under warranty. Samsung's warranty service goes through a Samsung authorized service center.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Bake or broil heating element
Only if it is visibly damaged or tests open. Match the part to your exact model number.
Search eBay →Oven temperature sensor
Only if it reads far from about 1,080 ohms at room temperature or its connector is damaged.
Search eBay →Oven control board
Samsung's service manual points to the board when a heater or door lock relay isn't working.
