Speed Queen Washer nF Error Code (Er nF): No Water Flow (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)
What the code means
Speed Queen's home washer manuals (top-load TR7 and front-load models) list Er, nF as "The washer has not filled to the proper water level. No or very little change in water level has been sensed within 5 minutes of the current fill." It is different from Er, FL, which appears when the washer still hasn't reached the fill level after 30 minutes, and from Er, PS, where the control has trouble sensing the water level at all. On commercial Speed Queen front loaders, the fault-code list used by laundry operator CSC ServiceWorks calls nF a "No Water Flow Error": the control didn't reach a 4-inch water level in the first 5 minutes, so it drains for 90 seconds, shuts off all outputs and sounds an error tone for 15 seconds.
Likely causes
- The hot or cold water faucet (or both) is turned off or only partly open.
- A kinked or twisted fill hose.
- Clogged filter screens at the faucet end of the fill hoses or in the water mixing valve.
- No water flowing to the machine at all (low or no house water pressure, a clogged water line).
- A leaking, disconnected or clogged hose to the pressure (water level) sensor, so the control can't see the water rising.
- A water inlet valve that isn't opening.
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the washer before pulling it out or working behind it, and turn off both faucets before removing the fill hoses. Inlet valve and pressure sensor testing involves line-voltage wiring inside the cabinet and is best left to a qualified appliance technician.
- Make sure both the hot and cold faucets behind the washer are turned fully on.
- Pull the washer out carefully and straighten any kinked or twisted fill hoses.
- Turn the faucets off, unscrew the fill hoses and clean the filter screens at the faucet end of the hoses and in the water mixing valve, as Speed Queen's manual says. Reconnect, turn the water back on and check for leaks.
- Unplug the washer for 15 seconds to clear the code, plug it back in and start a new cycle.
- If nF comes back even though water clearly reaches the hoses, unplug the washer and call for service.
๐ When to call a pro
- Checking water pressure at the inlets and whether the water inlet (mixing) valve opens when energized, and replacing the valve if it doesn't.
- Inspecting the hose to the pressure sensor for an air leak, a loose connection or a clog, per the commercial fault-code list.
- Checking the pressure sensor and control if the hose and valve are fine (the separate Er, PS code points directly at water level sensing).
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Water inlet valve
Only if water supply and screens are fine and the valve doesn't open; order by your exact Speed Queen model number.
Search eBay โWasher fill hoses
Only if a hose is kinked, cracked or bulging; many come with new filter screens.
Search eBay โPressure sensor hose
Only if the hose to the water level sensor is cracked, split or clogged.
