LG Washer IE Error Code: Water Inlet Error, Washer Not Filling (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)
What the code means
LG defines IE (Water Inlet Error, also shown as No Water Supply) as the washer failing to fill the tub to an adequate level within a specified period. LG's newer front-load error list groups IE with E02 and E10, which some models show for the same no-water-supply condition. LG lists the required water pressure as 14.5 to 116 psi; below that, the fill takes too long and IE appears. In cold weather a frozen faucet or hose can cause it, and LG's top-load page notes the supply resumes once temperatures rise above freezing. Siphoning is the hidden cause LG calls out: on top loaders, pushing the drain hose more than 4 inches (10 cm) into the drainpipe makes water drain out as the washer fills, and on front loaders a drain hose that's too low, has popped out of its holder, or has its end submerged does the same thing. If the faucet, hoses, filters and drain hose all check out and IE keeps coming back, LG says the water supply valve may be malfunctioning and the washer needs service.
Likely causes
- Faucet turned off or only partly open, water shut off to the house, or an inlet hose not connected
- Inlet hose pinched, kinked or bent (washers can creep slightly from vibration and bend the hose)
- Inlet hose or faucet frozen in cold weather
- Clogged inlet filter screens (rust, sand or sediment) where the hoses attach to the washer
- Hot and cold hoses connected to the wrong valves
- Household water pressure below LG's 14.5 psi minimum
- Drain hose pushed more than 4 inches into the drainpipe on a top loader, or on a front loader a drain hose that's too low, out of its holder, or submerged in water, which siphons water out while filling
- A faulty water supply (inlet) valve, per LG, if everything above checks out
Safe DIY checks
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and shut off the water supply valves before removing panels or disconnecting hoses. Keep towels handy for residual water.
- Turn both faucets fully counterclockwise to open them, and confirm water is on elsewhere in the house.
- Straighten any kinked or pinched inlet hoses. If a hose is badly bent or damaged, turn off the faucet, disconnect it, and replace it if needed.
- Make sure the cold (blue) hose goes to the cold valve and the hot (red or orange) hose to the hot valve.
- Clean the inlet filters: turn off the faucets and unplug the washer, unscrew the hoses from the back of the washer, pull the filter screens out with pliers, scrub them under running water with a toothbrush, reinsert them, and reconnect the hoses.
- If it's freezing, check whether water comes out of the faucet with the hose disconnected. LG suggests wrapping a frozen faucet in a towel soaked in hot water for about 5 minutes and thawing the hose in warm water no hotter than about 50°C (122°F).
- Check pressure: open another tap nearby. If flow is weak throughout the house, have a plumber check the supply; LG needs 14.5 to 116 psi.
- Check the drain hose: on a top loader, no more than 4 inches should go into the drainpipe. On a front loader, keep the hose snapped into its holder at the proper height and make sure its end isn't sitting in water.
- Run a short cycle and watch the fill. Strong flow but a water level that never rises points to siphoning through the drain hose.
🛠 When to call a pro
- IE keeps returning with the faucets fully open, clean filters, straight hoses, good pressure and a correctly installed drain hose; LG says the water supply valve may be faulty.
- No water enters at all even though water flows fine from the disconnected hose.
- The washer is under warranty. Use LG's Request a Repair page or LG chat support rather than opening the cabinet.
Parts that commonly fix it
Always match the part number to your exact model.
Washer inlet hoses
Replace a hose that's kinked, damaged or won't flow freely, as LG suggests.
