Frigidaire Oven Error Code 50 (F50 / F050): Control Can't Read the Door or Lock Switches (Meaning, Causes, Fixes)

Reviewed 2026-10-23 · Based on 4 manufacturer & service sources

What the code means

Frigidaire ranges with the newer PUX electronic oven control define F050 as "A/D out of range": the oven relay board is unable to read the status of the switches (door, MDL). In plain terms, the signal coming back from the door switch or the motorized door latch's lock switch is outside the range the board expects, so the control doesn't know whether the door is open, closed, locked or unlocked and stops with an error. The Frigidaire Professional range data sheet lists the same F50 definition and adds the temperature probes to the connections to check. Because the door switch and the door latch are both involved, F50 often shows up around a self-clean cycle or when the oven light or door lock acts oddly. Related codes on the same controls are F90 (door lock motor not seen running), F95 (lock mechanism failure) and F96 (door detected open during self-clean). These are the newer controls' definitions; if your oven is older, check the tech sheet tucked behind the kick panel or control panel for your model before buying parts.

Likely causes

Safe DIY checks

⚠ Before you start

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels.

  1. Clear the error and reset the power: unplug the range for 30 seconds, or switch its breaker off and back on (that resets everything else on that circuit too). Frigidaire's first step is to cycle the power a couple of times and see whether F50 comes back.
  2. Open and close the oven door firmly and make sure nothing (a rack, a pan handle, a bent hinge) keeps it from closing all the way and pressing the door switch plunger.
  3. Don't start a self-clean while F50 is showing. The control can't tell whether the door is locked.
  4. If the code returns, write down the exact code (F50, F050, and any F90, F95 or F96 that show up with it) and your model number from the label; parts are model-specific.
  5. Unplug the range (and shut off the gas on a gas range) before any panel comes off. The door switch and latch checks below are wiring work.

🛠 When to call a pro

  • Replacing the door switch plunger or plungers and reseating the harness if the error keeps returning after a power reset, which is Frigidaire's second step.
  • Checking the motorized door latch and its harness, and on Professional models the temperature probe connections, including splices and junctions.
  • Testing the door switch and lock switch for continuity with a meter.
  • Replacing the oven relay (power) board if the switches and wiring test good and F50 persists.

Parts that commonly fix it

Always match the part number to your exact model.

⚙

Oven door switch

The plunger switch the door presses when it closes. Frigidaire's next step after a power reset. Match the part to your model number.
